Yesterday evening I forgot to turn off the light in the living room before I opened the window wide for ventilation. The light lured some flying insects into the apartment. A slightly larger insect flew behind a cupboard and hummed around loudly. Only when I moved the cupboard a little, I could see what had gotten into our apartment. It was a hornet. Before she flew out again, I was able to take the following photos.
Gestern Abend habe ich vergessen das Licht im Wohnzimmer auszumachen, bevor ich das Fenster zum Lüften weit geöffnet habe. Durch das Licht wurden einige Fluginsekten in die Wohnung gelockt. Ein etwas größeres Insekt ist hinter einen Schrank geflogen und summte dort laut herum. Erst als ich den Schrank etwas verschoben habe, konnte ich erkennen was sich da in unsere Wohnung verirrt hatte. Es war eine Hornisse. Bevor sie wieder nach draußen geflogen ist, konnte ich die folgenden Fotos machen.

Once one of such things made me flee from my apartment and wait in the hall until my boyfriend came home 🙈

But there are also hornets in the UK, at least in the southern half.
Really??? Like my phobia of wasps was not enough fml lol
I don't think there are too many regions of the world really free of wasps and hornets, except at extreme altitude, where all insects have a hard time surviving because they dehydrate so rapidly.
Well i will just stay indoors and lock all the windows and doors then lol

Ohhh, that's a yellowjacket. Those things are incredibly, aggressively pugnacious. Mud daubers are worse, but not by much.

Von so nah sehen sie schon gefährlich aus aber auch schön. Bei mir zu Hause kommen sie immer zum Teich, trinken was und sind gleich wieder verschwunden. Bloß gut das sie nicht auf die süßen Sachen aus sind wie die Wespen. Danke für das teilen und lieben Gruß vom foxi

Not a fan of things that sting. Had a disagreement with one as a child and have held a grudge ever since. Nice photos all the same. Idea of size? I have seen hornets that were well over an inch before.
