Once upon a time there was a mining village named Emirion at the highest altitudes of a mountain by the same name. It’s inhabitants worshiped the goddess Olga above all others, she was the guardian of time, a great benefactor who could lead the way when one was lost in the subterranean. They made multiple offerings daily but never did a drop of blood make it to her altars. There are many deities in the multiverse but few humans are privileged enough to ever encounter one. However, when Olga realized that terrible floods were anhilating the plains encompassing the towns with which the inhabitants of Emirion were trading their ore for food, she took pity. She appeared from another dimension and scooped the whole town in her belly in order to transport it to safety in a parallel universe. When she tried to leave the town in it’s new location, it didn’t work. What had been done could not be undone and this is how Emirion came to be the town which travels through dimensions in the belly of a goddess.
This story was made for @w0olf’s character design challenge, it was so much fun creating this backstory. You can find the contest here hurry, it ends Wednesday Jan 31st 7 PM UTC. I chose to work with Clip Studio for IPad. The Apple Pencil does a great job with the app, it feels like the next best thing to a cintiq.
I start the process by creating different options, it’s really fun to do!
I had to redo the silhouette in order to increase the resolution and also to give it a personal touch.
Time for the full line work, except for the windows which I was only going to add if time allows.
The background gives the art context and some depth to the waterfall scheme.
Voilà, this is the finished work, the story came together as I was working on the color scheme. I opted to leave Olga the goddess somewhat transparent to represent her teleportation power.
Amazing Art
Thanks a lot!
Pleasure 😊
I am so flattered :) Love seeing your creative process!
