Penderesan karet

I was lucky to have a chance to see the process of tapping the latex or it is commonly called natural rubber that was being harvested. I was so passionate to bring up the natural resource issue that I found in the farming village Aceh Indonesia several days ago.

Saya beruntung memiliki kesempatan untuk melihat proses penyadapan getah atau biasa disebut karet alam yang sedang dipanen. Saya masih bersemangat mengemukakan masalah sumber daya alam yang ada di desa pertanian Aceh Indonesia.

The tapping process was not easy, it took a special skill to stretch the tree skin using the sharp knife, he used a special tapping knife to shear off a thin layer of rubber tree's bark. He carefully sheared avoiding the deep cut that may injure the tree. He went from one to another tree, in the blink of eyes I could see the latex flowed into a cup that was attached at tree body.

Proses penyadapan tidaklah mudah, dibutuhkan keahlian khusus untuk meregangkan kulit pohon dengan menggunakan pisau tajam, dia menggunakan pisau sadap khusus untuk memotong lapisan tipis kulit pohon karet. Dia dengan hati-hati menggores lapisan agar tidak melukai pohon. Dia pergi dari satu pohon ke pohon lain, dalam sekejap mata aku bisa melihat warna putih pekat itu mengalir ke dalam cangkir yang diikat badan pohon.

After a few minutes the liquid dried and allow other drop into the cup. The process of harvesting latex itself is simple, the farmer experienced in harvesting natural latex since he had been doing the tapping job for many years, so it made him no trouble while tapping. When harvesting, this milky fluid is very carefully stripped to expose the latex vessel. It was done for couple time until the tapper met the target.

Setelah beberapa menit cairan tersebut mengering dan tetes getah selanjutnya mengalir ke dalam cangkir. Proses pemanenan getah itu sendiri sederhana, petani tersebut tentu berpengalaman dalam memanen getah alami karena ia telah melakukan pekerjaan sebagai penyadap getah selama bertahun-tahun, sehingga tidak menimbulkan masalah ketika menyadap. Saat panen, cairan susu ini keluar ke bejana. Itu dilakukan untuk beberapa saat sampai penyadap memenuhi target.

It is clearly seen the collected latex in a cup that was tighly attached at the tree's bark. Normally, it takes a half a day to have this amount of latex. The tappers did the latex harvesting during the day but they are some who harvested at night, it depends on the age of rubber plant and its condition that may take different time of harvesting. In this area, I met the tappers did latex harvested on the day with no rain to make sure this fluid milk was not diluted by rainwater. I was not able to count how many tree they had tapped but I could assume, they have done for hundreds trees.

Terlihat jelas getah yang terkumpul di dalam cangkir itu. Biasanya, dibutuhkan setengah hari untuk memiliki jumlah sebanyak ini. Biasanya, para penyadap melakukan pemanenan getah di siang hari tapi ada juga yang menyadap pada malam hari, itu tergantung pada umur tanaman karet dan kondisinya yang mungkin memakan waktu pemanenan yang berbeda. Di daerah ini, saya bertemu dengan para penyadap yang melakukan pemanenan di sore hari hari yang cerah, tidak dalam keadaan hujan karena bisa mempengaruhi sifat getah. Saya tidak dapat menghitung berapa banyak pohon yang telah mereka sadap tapi saya bisa berasumsi, mereka telah menyadap ratusan pohon.

The farmer repeated to strip another layer following the previous cuts, in one stretch, the milky fluid drip out slowly into a cup. This is a painstaking process may take around three hours to produce less than one cup of latex. The tapping activity was repeated within few hours to collect more latex that's gathered in the cup. The latex will then evens out steadily for few minutes. This farmer still used the old-school method of harvesting latex and kept sustaining this tapping method since he believed, this method could improve productivity of latex and kept the tree healthy.

Setelah beberapa saat, petani itu mulai menanggalkan lapisan lain setelah pemotongan sebelumnya, dalam satu per satu, cairan susu menetes perlahan ke dalam cangkir. Ini adalah proses yang sangat telaten mungkin memakan waktu sekitar tiga jam untuk menghasilkan kurang dari satu cangkir lateks. Kegiatan penyadapan diulang dalam beberapa jam untuk mengumpulkan lebih banyak getah yang dikumpulkan di cangkir. Getah terus bertambah selama beberapa menit. Petani ini masih menggunakan metode tradisional dan terus menggunakannya karena ia yakin, metode ini dapat meningkatkan produktivitas lateks dan menjaga agar pohon tetap sehat.
