    Thanks! I'll try to keep uploading here too. It seems to be coming along from where it was 6 months ago. Still buggy, but better for sure!

      Another alternative is vk.com (formerly vkontakt), the Russian Facebook. The government requires the site to keep all data on users, but apparently only for law enforcement. Most content is in the Russian language, but not all. Also, check out the search engine yandex.com, which has a good translator too.

      Best alternatives:

      • go out and walk and talk to 5-10 people (5-7 may ignore you, fine)
      • the 2-3 that respond genuinely, it gold
      • use Couchsurfing, join their events it's not just place to stay
      • use Hangout in Couchsurfing, it will scan the nearest location to see who is active and you can send a quick message to hangout, they have option to accept or not
      • likewise, you can create a Hangout and wait for others to join

        I'm going to try that Couchsurfing one. That sounds like a great idea!
