DeepOnion 6 Month Anniversary!
On the 6th of January 2018, the anonymous and popular cryptocurrency called DeepOnion, will celebrate their 6 month anniversary. It is a no-brainer to say that DeepOnion experienced a lot of growth over these 6 months, reaching a new ATH, gaining thousands of investors and being listed on 6 exchanges, but there is even more! In this article I will look back over the past 6 months of DeepOnion and tell you more about this amazing project and its highlights.
Where it all started
It all started on the 6th of July 2017, when one of the DeepOnion developers, “Crypto-Rainbow” made the official announcement to the public on bitcointalk.org at exactly 06:55:05 AM. This official announcement thread got high interested from the start, since it was market differently then other new projects at the time, which were mainly ICO’s (Initial Coin Offerings) or crowdfunding projects. DeepOnion is freely distributing millions of Onions over 40 weekly airdrops which occur on every Friday, till the end of March 2018. The immense popularity regarding anonymity and privacy worldwide, resulted in a high interested in the project.
Shortly after the announcement, @bykardinal replied to the thread at 01:16:51 PM saying: “I like it. 100% it will be hyped. I’ll help to make this thread hyped”, and he has kept his word, being one of the current moderators of the DeepOnion forum. Although he was the first that replied to the thread and is a well-known member now, many other familiar members left their comment shortly after the announcement, like @Vectisitch did. @Bytefree wrote “count me in” one day later, @The-Doctor on the 8th and the again one of the current moderators @The-monkii started with posting weekly videos starting in August. It was roughly 2 months after the announcement when the current moderators and designers of DeepOnion, @Doglover and @Impressive joined the DeepOnion project while looking on BCT for an interesting project. @Deeper, one of the DeepOnion developers, contacted them to ask whether they wanted to become moderators, which was the start of amazing contributions.
The First Out Of 40 Airdrops And Introduction Of Bounties
The first airdrop started two weeks after the announcement, on the 21st of July 2017, rewarding participants with hundreds of free Onions. Participants were rewarded by their Bitcointalk forum rank, giving almost 1000 Onions to the highest member level (legend) and a little less than 600 Onions for the lowest (jr. member). By this time, the official announcement thread got already more than 2500 comments! An early indicator that this project was going to be a success.
The DeepOnion developers, which is an unknown team of at least 4 man strong, containing veterans in social media, search engine marketing (SEM) specialists and blockchain developers, wanted to motivate the members on their own DeepOnion forum by introducing Bounties on the 24th of July. On the 1st of August, members of the official DeepOnion forum with the most likes, messages or points, got rewarded 100 Onions each via an extra weekly special airdrop.
Unfortunately this was also the first day that the project got some negative feedback from a FUDDER, named “Lauda” calling DeepOnion a scam coin or at the very best a highly misleading project. Fortunately she was outnumbered and got proven wrong over the past 6 months. At this point the community already showed their strength.
Fast Growing Community, Hurricane Harvey And DeepVault
August 2017 was an important month for the project. By this time, the forum had grown to 821 members, which posted 13,063 messages (9th of August) and 338 airdrop participants got rewarded Onions on the 4th of August, reaching from 736 Onions for Jr. Members and 1196 Onions for Legends.
This fast growing community was not only focussing on the success of their project, but was also helping others that got effected by Hurricane Harvey, launching a Hurricane Relief Fund on the 29th of August, with the hashtag #DeepOnionCares, raising over 1500 USD. In this month, DeepOnion also launched their first faucet, web wallet (terminated later) and they got listed on the 10th of August at NovaExchange.com. @Maxmadx, streamlined the announcement on the 20th and on the 31st members received the first newsletter.
The popularity and community of DeepOnion kept on growing and growing, reaching 1982 members with 31,301 messages on the official DeepOnion forum on the 9th of October. One day later on the 10th, they reached a whopping 1000 pages of comments on the Bitcointalk announcement thread and they released an unique feature called; “DeepVault V1.3”. With this feature, users can store file validation credentials within the blockchain, allowing them to verify a file’s integrity over time. In other words; content creators like music artists, lawyers and/or designers can secure their content within the blockchain, which enables them to see whether their content has been altered and/or tampered with.
Due to the launch of the unique DeepVault feature, the project was getting more attention and the community kept on growing resulting in a project that was getting stronger by the day. They needed to use that strength when the one and only exchange they were listed on, announced on the 30th of October that they were terminating their activities due to new management. The DeepOnion developers and moderators acted promptly by raising enough money out of their own pockets in order to be listed on a different exchange called Cryptopia. These funds were raised within 24 hours after the NovaExchange announcement. Also the community reacted promptly by searching for alternative exchanges and ways to raise funds for more listings. The power of a community was getting noticed by the developers and moderators, resulting in the start of a major change.
DeepPoints And Domination Tasks
On the 24th of October, Deeper announced a new system called: “DeepPoints”. Members of the DeepOnion community were rewarded weekly for their content on the official DeepOnion forum. Members received so called DeepPoints for every like, newly opened thread, poll voting's, posts and more, resulting in a huge increase in activity on the forum and many new members. The first special DeepPoint airdrop took place on the 5th of October and so called Deep Domination Tasks were introduced.
With Deep Domination Tasks, members were asked to do certain marketing tasks like reacting to youtube videos, tweets and post on other forums, mentioning DeepOnion in order to spread the word about this new and fast growing project. Members who did this, got rewarded more DeepPoints which were exchanged for Onions during the Sunday DeepPoint Airdrops.
Immediately after the introduction of the DeepTasks, the project noticed an huge increase in price and the community started to grow even faster. Unfortunately the DeepPoint system also attracted many spammers and abusers of the system, that were flooding the forum and spamming on the worldwideweb. Causing a lot of irritation and negative feelings towards the DeepOnion project. The developers and moderators tried many things like banning members, giving lower rewards and introducing light bans. Unfortunately this was not enough to stop the abuse, so on the 24th of December, the DeepPoint system was terminated.
VIP Task Group
The power of the community was proven to be very effective though, so on the 14th of December, the developers of DeepOnion introduced VIP tasks. These tasks are focussing on spreading the word about DeepOnion in a non spammy way, by a carefully selected group of 50 members who have proven to master the English language and have knowledge regarding the project and cryptocurrency in general. Since the introduction of this specially tailored VIP group, the price of DeepOnion continued to rise exponentially.
A Lot More To Come
In the past 6 months, DeepOnion managed to get themselves listed on 4 more exchanges (Kucoin, Stocks.Exchange, Trade Satoshi and Next.Exchange) due to the power of the community. A community that has almost 10.000 members on the official forum today, with almost 300.000 posts and almost 2300 pages of comments on the BitcoinTalk Forum.
DeepOnion is currently hovering between the 7-8 USD per Onion with a marketcap of 35 million. The coin is still heavily undervalued, especially considering that they have not released their whitepaper yet, they are not listed on major exchanges (due to the current airdrops) and they have not released their Deepsend feature yet. We will see a huge increase in price, popularity and adoption of DeepOnion in 2018.
I want to congratulate everyone who contributed in the first 6 months of this amazing project. DeepOnion is an amazing project and you are a part of that! Congratulations!
