take back our freedoms.

What freedoms?

There is only one freedom. You either effect it or it does not exist.

It is not a possession, it is the result of sovereignty which is an aspect of living organisms as much as their physiological bodies. Freedom is the native and inherent capability to behave at will people express. You can't buy it, and no one can take it from you.

It remains an aspect of your person regardless of the conditions you are in, no matter what environment may be imposed on you.

What you actually refer to is a society that accounts freedom an inherent aspect of people. That can be taken from us, and has been. However, it is only via mechanisms that can be controlled by a tiny cabal that such control, thievery, and tyranny can be imposed, and that is a miniscule subset of the features of society. Two vectors of such control primarily come to mind: military force and economic manipulation.

When you get right down to it, military force is only potentially applicable because of economic manipulation, which means that is the only means of imposing tyranny on humanity.

This reveals that Hive is a mechanism potential of preventing tyranny if it can be secure from control by oligarchs. Hive is an exact copy of Steem, and presently only different from Steem in it's governance mechanism by a 30 day hold on powered up stake applying to witness votes. Steem provably has been seized by an oligarch, which reveals that Hive is utterly incapable as deployed of securing money from the economic control of oligarchs.

Calling Sun Yuchen an oligarch is utterly laughable, considering he paid Warren Buffet for the privilege of having lunch with him. This suggests that Hive will need vast improvements in security before real oligarchs can be prevented from taking it from us.

Presently goats or beaver pelts are more secure as money than Hive, and investment in Hive reflects this.

Sort:

Hard to tell about the "security" & "monetary" aspects of Hive.

For the security part, I guess it would depend on who really has control over the platform. I am not familiar with all the inner-mechanics of it, as it seems quite complex in nature. If it is the community of witnesses that are supported by the users/their followers, then as long as their actions are fairly "pure" and consistent/inline with the mission of the platform (I'm guessing to avoid censorship, spamming, maintaining a cordial setting, and the like) and they do not get usurped one by one (as seemingly what at least partially happened with EOS) then it should sail forward fairly smoothly for a while. After seeing what happened with that Sun fool taking over Steemit and usurping witnesses/megatokens, I was certainly glad to see that the community/witnesses were able to get out of that mess. Who knows, maybe that Sun fool was coerced (by the powers-that-shouldn't-be) into taking over the platform to silence us; or, he was just an utter idiot on his small-dick, big-ego, power trip. Take your pick.

As for the monetary part, it is hard to say. I still have no idea how the value of a Hive token or dollar gets valued. And I have yet to try to take out or "convert" it to another crypto (have you?), so I'm not sure how that would work, though I have seen a couple of services that should be able to do this. But, I think the primary reasons for people joining this community is to be with like-minded people and being heard without being censored. At least those are the reasons I am here.
