Scout Stork. Delivering the tools and knowledge to empower collaborative innovation.
By Charles Adjovu, Scout & Delegate (aka Director) at @Ledgerback
Summary
For this update, we are further discussing our rebranding efforts, discussing our recent work and new projects, our membership certificates, Amalgam's second issue, and our currently available services.
Concerning Greenback, we are still deliberating over a new name for the service but it will be pretty cool (N_N).
Rebranding Efforts
We have rebranded the Ledgerwire and the name for our members from "Backers" to "Scouts." We explain why in further detail in the sections that come after.
So if you become a member, you will be known as a Scout.
Why the Scout-oriented change?
We decided to make the change for three reasons.
First, we felt it was more inline with our mascot and overlord, Scout Stork.
Second, Scout, as defined by Merriam Webster's Online Dictionary, is defined as "one sent to obtain information" [1]. As we are a collaborative innovative network (CoIN) focused on blockchain and decentralization research, we are often tasked with searching, understanding, compiling, and presenting on information for the benefit of our members, clients, and the greater community.
Additionally, our newsletter service is provided to our clients based on their personal interests, which requires us to "scout" for, and curate, information we believe will interest them while giving greater insight to the blockchain and decentralization industry.
Thus, Scout Report (what do you think about "Scouting Report?"| too football-ish?) is more appropriate, and imputes that the newsletter was made by one of our members.
So if you become a member, you will be known as a Scout (AKA come and join us! The water's warm.).
Third, Scout sounds better than Backers and Scout Report sounds better than Ledgerwire!
Scout-oriented change for Greenback?
We are deliberating the rebrand for Greenback, and it may also be rebranded with a scout-oriented name, but we will know after further deliberation.
Additionally, in the meantime, we have to start some advertising and/or marketing campaigns for Greenback to raise the service's presence, and to show the local cryptocurrency and blockchain community in Las Vegas that there is a better alternative for cryptocurrency-to-cash transactions.
Recent Work and Projects
Hmm, I do believe we have missed giving some updates on our recent work. Sorry about that (T_T). I made sure to include them in this update at the beginning of this section.
Music Licensing on the Blockchain
After completing "A Preliminary Review of Blockchain in the Music Industry" in November 2018, we wanted to work on a follow-up report on how a music license could be developed to work on a blockchain.
You may read the report by clicking here.
For the past 2 months, we have slowly but steadily been working on the follow-up report.
No deadline is attached to the follow-up report, but we hope to publish it by years' end. Where the article will be published is TBD.
Once we have a rough draft completed, we may host another notice-and-comment period for others to give comments on the work before we make our final draft and publish it.
Bikechain
Looks like we need to order 3 more additional parts for the Bikechain project.
Items needed:
- sensorless controller;
- DNP extraction tool; and
- bike with larger "L" space.
Once we have these 3 parts, we will be ready to do the eBike conversion.
Other than the bike parts, we also need to set up a Raspberry Pi, and connect the Pi to a private blockchain so we can test out some of our theories regarding "bike mining."
If Bikechain sounds interesting to you, please send a message to hello@ledgerback.coop or hit us up on social media.
2 New Projects: Historia and Statis
We have 2 new projects for anyone to work on in collaboration with Ledgerback, or as a Scout with Ledgerback, your choice (but being a Scout is the best option, no bias).
Project Historia is a project to develop a decentralized network analytic framework from which we can gain a deeper understanding of the governance and ecosystem of decentralized networks.
Project Statis is a project to develop a new metric, which we have tentatively named "Block & Mortar" (B%M), to determine the viability, well-being, and marketability of a blockchain network and it's overall ecosystem (e.g., the companies that host blockchain explorers are dependent on the underlying blockchain network).
Anyone is free to collaborate on these projects.
Simply send us a message at hello@ledgerback.coop or hit us up on social media.
New Blockchain and Trademark Article
Charles Adjovu, Ledgerback, and Alex Robertson, Esq., have collaborated on a new blockchain and trademark article that covers generic and merely descriptive marks in trademark law, and what this could mean for "blockchain" and "cryptocurrency" trademarks under Class 036: Financial Services.
We expect the article to be published soon and recommend reading it if you are interested in cryptolaw.
Edit: article was published in Crypto Law Review; link here.
Membership Certificates
It has been awhile since we last discussed Membership Certificates, but we finally have conventional certificates to give out to members.
If you are a member, expect to receive a Membership Certificate within the next 2 weeks.
Amalgam
The Amalgam Staff are going to delay the second issue of Amalgam to at least the end of May.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

- Scout Report: Personalized newsletter on the blockchain industry, based on your interests, and even the appearance is customizable.
- Research Report: In-depth research on blockchain, decentralization, and or other emerging technologies, based on your research proposal. We will handle all aspects of the research process.
Additional Services:
- In-person training: We provide in-person training on the basics needed for active and fulfilling participation in the blockchain industry. We will go over CryptoCamp, our introductory guide on the blockchain industry, with you and help you work through the practical aspects such as key management and cybersecurity measures.
- Free educational resources: CryptoCamp is free for anyone to use to gain a basic understanding of the blockchain industry. Additionally, we have other resoruces available at our website under resources.
- In-person OTC exchange: We provide a cash-to-cryptocurrency (bitcoin and ethereum) service where customers can convert (buy and/or sell) between US dollars (cash or card) and cryptocurrency (bitcoin and ethereum). The service, aptly named Greenback, allows customers to pay with, or receive, cash for their transactions.
Nevada Blockchain Directory
We recently added PrimeTrust and Cafe Cryptoria to the Nevada Blockchain Directory.
You may find the directory here.
About @Ledgerback
Ledgerback is a Research Cooperative that performs research, consultancy, and advocacy for blockchain networks (use-cases, on/off-chain intelligence), online governance, and decentralized communities and technologies.
In general, our focus is on decentralized technologies and communities, with a goal of creating, curating and distributing resources for the growth of the future decentralized (and hopefully P2P) economy.
Our main activities are conducting:
- research (primarily publishing research reports and summary reviews),
surveys and polls (generally concerning societal adoption of blockchain or specific topics within blockchain communities), - consultancy (assisting projects with their issues), and
- advocacy (promoting the local blockchain community in Nevada).
As a Cooperative, we are a community-driven organization owned, managed, and operating for the benefit of our members to realize their common goals.
If you are passionate about about our interests or works, we implore you to join us and create a brighter tomorrow for the new digital frontier.
