Mr. Antonis Polemitis, Chief Executive Officer of the University of Nicosia (UNIC) and EDEX will be speaking at Dencentralized 2018 conference, 14th – 16th November @ Divani Caravel, Athens, Greece – representing the university of Nicosia, a new world leader in cryptocurrency education - offering an MSc in Digital Currency.
I have recently been looking at the Dencentralized 2018 cryptocurrency conference, it looks pretty interesting and has many well-known speakers - I will be posting more on Decentralized 2018 soon. I have personally never heard of a university offering a degree level course in digital currency. Let’s take a look …
The MSc programme in Digital Currency (distance learning)
The first MSc programme of its kind, this is an exciting development and evidence of the ever increasing demand for academic knowledge in digital currency. The course is internationally accessible due to the great advantage of distance learning and aims to provide students with a detailed understanding of the technical foundations of digital currency. Students will have opportunity to explore the ways cryptocurrencies will interact in future with our current financial systems, including the many opportunities that exist for innovation in digital currency systems. This great leap in digital education is set to benefit many, including - but not limited to - the fields below:
- Computer scientists who aspire to managerial roles
- Regulatory officials/policy makers
- Development professionals: Social workers, NGOs, non-profits, development experts
- Financial industry professionals – bankers, lawyers, accountants, auditors
- Business-people / entrepreneurs
University of Nicosia are also offering a free introduction course “DFIN-511: Introduction to Digital Currencies”, so here is one to share with any family and friends interested in learning more about the fundamental principles of digital currency… spread the knowledge and TOGETHER we can make CHANGE happen!
At Decentralized 2017, Mr Polemitis said:
“We believe in a future where everyone has ownership of their own personal data and can share and authenticate it at will, while still ensuring strong privacy. This effort at UNIC is a step towards this decentralized future that will unfold over the next five to ten years. We view our role as a university to be focused on the cutting edge of these technological shifts, both in theory and in practice. I am very proud of our research team’s work. The technological platform was developed entirely internally at the University of Nicosia and includes some very interesting work on difficult topics, such as revocation. We look forward to discussing these developments with our colleagues in academia, business and the broader cryptocurrency and blockchain community at our dedicated summit.”

Course Details
The first class in the degree pathway, Introduction to Digital Currency, is available for free as an open enrollment, MOOC-like course, to anyone interested in learning more about the fundamental principles of digital currency.
The remaining 8 courses are offered at €1,600 per course, bringing the total tuition fees for the programme to €12,800.

Hi @ura-soul!
Thanks so much for this article, just a few hours ago I published a post regarding Decentralized 2018, the speakers & the subjects to be presented / discussed : )
Representatives from @oracle-d are also attending Decentralized!
I hope to attend and as a matter of fact, the possibility of that is greater than 90%!
I have some information you might not be aware of. The UNIC has recently created a steemit account for its MSc in Digital Currencies, offering an overview of the course and invites everyone to join the FREE MOOC.
In addition, the @mscdigital presents a synopsis of the sessions included in the 12-week course (Mr Polemitis himself and Mr Antonopoulos are the Lecturers)
I was a student of their MOOC 9 and I fully recommend it.
(Perhaps in the future I will be able to apply for their MSc too.. )
Very good, thanks for the link and info!
Am I correct in thinking that the move to offer this course is partially in reponse to the financial problems Greece has experienced with it's legacy financial systems?
Thank you for responding!
The course will certainly help Greeks, but I doubt that it has anything to do with the Greek financial situation. The course has been offered to everybody for the past few years and I guess that their main goal was/is to bring this knowledge closer to the people.
For me this course was an eye-opener. My first ever interaction with any blockchain was steemit ..
I had read some things about blockchain, but the course provided me with more valid information and the theory as to 'why' this is considered a disruptive field and the reason we will be discussing about it a lot in the future.
I hope that a course like that would be available here in my country @ura-soul.
I think this course can be completed remotely, online - so you can probably join in wherever you are in the world!
Very good information sir 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Good news!
