Yesterday we had the D&D crew back together and the session was a bit all over the map.
We started off by testing out a bit more of @coriolanus's homebrew that he's been working on. It's still not totally finished and needs a bit more tweaking but the concept is pretty cool and I hope that he works out a bit more the kinks so we can play it again.
He wanted to incorporate a bit of a darksoul vibe to the game so killing things accumuated souls instead of xp. We didn't delve too deep into that part of the system.
The combat wasn't very balanced and had two vast extremes between doing tons of damage and being able to block tons of damage. So most of our characters were either glass cannons or indestructible tanks. That can all be rebalanced so next time around I'm sure all of that will be fixed.
The session itself had most of us playing silly characters since we knew their wasn't an actual campaign behind everything.
I was playing Shelia and even using my best imitation of a female voice. This was quite the task since I'm a 6'4" 230lbs man with a deep voice. This led to quite a few chuckles and the rest of the players would get mad at me if I wasn't using the voice all the time.
The other characters included Wakandan Knuckles (The DM decalred that we were from Wakanda), and dveryone else just wrote down their names backwards for their characters. Knuckles declared that I was his Queen and kept asking everyone if they knew the way, I guess he really likes his meme's.
The session was pretty silly and we had fun but things quickly devolved into everyone screwing around and playing on their phones (myself included). We ended up scrapping the session and I volunteered to start up a fresh campaign.
Aww man, I love D&D/D20 games; and that sound like an especially fun time! I'm about to start a D20 Modern campaign (adapted to fifth edition D&D rules) where my friends and I are trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. We're using our city as the map and we didn't roll for our character stats (which makes the world extremely easy for me to understand as a DM). We all made honest assessments of our own strength, charisma, etc and already set off! Some close calls so far, but we're bunkering down in our house haha.
That sounds pretty damn cool. Great idea, I hope it's fun.
