The last days I was again driving through Germany. If I do not hear audiobooks while driving, I hear music from the radio. I try to receive local stations or stations that do not play the mainstream music. Somewhere on a traffic jam between Würzburg and Nuremberg I caught a radio that aired the original version of Knockin 'On Heaven's Door and then 3 more versions of the song. Because I love the song, I'll write a little bit about it today and share some versions here.
The first version appeared in 1973 and was on the album Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid the soundtrack to the film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. It was Bob Dylan's first album as a soundtrack. The video that opens the post is the excerpt from the movie where the song is played. The movie is considered one of the best western movies ever made.

die letzten Tage war ich wieder unterwegs durch Deutschland. Wenn ich keine Hörbücher höre beim fahren, höre ich Musik vom Radio. Ich versuche lokale Sender zu empfangen oder Sender die nicht die Mainstream Musik spielen. Die erste Version erschien 1973 und wurde auf den Album Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid den Soundtrack zu dem Film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Es war Bob Dylan's erstes Album als Soundtrack. Das Video das den Beitrag eröffnet ist der Ausschnitt vom Film wo das Lied gespielt wird. Der Film gilt als einer der besten Western Filme die je gemacht wurde.

The most successful version of all is the from Guns N 'Roses. It was first released on the maxi single Welcome to the Jungle in 1987 as a live version. A studio version came in 1990 for the movie Days of Thunder.
The video here is from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992 on Wembley.
