DISCUSSION TOPIC:
The Guilt Of Sin

BIBLE READING:
Psalm 38: 1-22

Qs. 3, 5 See Questions HERE.

DISCUSSION:

David thinks of his sufferings as a rebuke from God and he asks the LORD to lift the siege. We are not told the nature of his sin, but it must have been serious as God punished him with a dreadful and painful illness (vs. 5-7). Why does God, who is love, inflict His chosen servant with sickness?

Sin does terrible things to us. It breaks our relationship with God (Isaiah 59:1-2). It exposes us to the attack of the Devil (v. 12). It destroys our relationship with loved ones and other people. Why do David's friends desert him (v. 11)?

David's sin and sickness were welcomed by his enemies (vs. 12, 19-20). How do our sinful behaviors make us play into the hands of non-Christians?

David had sinned but he is an example of us. He kept quiet when slandered by his enemies, relying on God to defend him (vs. 13-15). Most importantly, he confessed his sin (v. 18) and cried to the Lord to be his Saviour (vs. 21-22, also read 1 Peter 5:7).

So what?

Some people still claim that AIDS is God's judgement on sinful man. While there could be a connection between sickness and our lifestyle, we must be wary of linking every sickness with sin.

Prayer:

Ask God for grace to stay away from sin and sinning.

REMAIN BLESSED!

Sort:

God could judge sin with sickness, but that definitely doesnt mean every sickness is God's judgment for sin. That's what of the lovely things i derive from today's devotion.

Exactly! But maybe David deserved what he got from God.

...or maybe not.

Remember,

We are not told the nature of his sin, but it must have been serious as God punished him with a dreadful and painful illness (vs. 5-7).

Thanks for meeting God today through the Bible and we believe through prayers, remain blessed.
