'To one group of people, it's "seizing an opportunity," to another it's "reward pool rape."'
It may be helpful to differentiate between different actions of bots.
We have the reward pool plunder bots operating from dummy accounts owned by big investors.
We have the pay to use upvote bots some financed by the hidden hand big investors.
and we have the bots people use when they don't want to miss voting for something while they are away from their screen.
And we have the selling of vests
As if the rewards for vesting in something already gained were not enough!
If the platform is to thrive we need to learn how to defend it as a community. We each need to take responsibility for what we give our votes, SBD and Steem to. This behavior is thriving because people are supporting it.
We really need to think deeply about what want to thrive and what we need to wither and die

Indeed, there are different kinds of bots. I have nothing against the ones that gather information for their owners who then go out and curate manually... or at least semi-manually. And, of course, things like cheetah, steemcleaners, spaminator and so forth serve their purpose.
If you are "SP rich" but time poor, I can also see someone delegating SP to a real person who's an active curator... along the lines of @stellabelle's recent proposal. Anything else, though? I just want to remind everyone that this is a SOCIAL site, not a cash dispenser! Maybe that sounds a bit rough and blunt... but that seems pretty much to be what it boils down to.
