Certainly better to keep your cadence up on steep climbs. 90RPM target just like the pros. I I find it makes it more aerobic and saves your legs for when they are needed even more.
I was a runner and i find cycling naturally more variable in intensity due to terrain. You go from a low heart rate to very high numerous times during a ride.
