Race to the Sun: 165 km (100 Mile)
This past Saturday, 11 May, I took part in Race to the Sun. This race is a 165km (100 mile) gravel race, running from Hartebeespoortdam to Sun City. As it is a gravel race most of the race takes place on gravel roads.
I am currently 60 years old and only started Mountain Bike Racing, just after I turned 60, thus, I am not doing it for a year yet.
This was my first 100 miler, and I am quite proud that I finished the race. You should however compare the first photo of me with the last one, to see how tired I was after the 165km.
The race started in batches, and I started in batch E, and started at 7:40, here I am still looking fresh.
Here, we are riding over the dam wall.
We had a few water crossings, which was quite nice.
We rode through fields and farm lands
Finally I reached the end, exhausted, but feeling great that I could complete this ride.
Some of you may know that I had cancer during 2019 and 2020, and I can only thank God that I am cured and now strong enough to take part and complete an ultra bike race.
Please note that I did not take the photos, it was taken by Action Photo SA. The photos was however included in the registration fee of the race.
I hope you enjoyed the post and that you have a wonderful day
