Cycling California - Mountain biking Los Gatos

in #cycling7 years ago (edited)

Hello all, I'm sharing my mountain bike ride from this afternoon. The shot below is Vasona Park in Los Gatos, CA. It was an overcast January afternoon, good temp for riding at 66* F.

The ride was 18 miles, 1,883 ft of climbing and just short of 2 hours in the hills above Los Gatos.

The GPS is from a Garmin Vivoactive HR uploaded to Strava. Under the red GPS track is the outline of the elevation, the speed is the blue line, estimated power in black and heart rate in red.

On the way there, I rode over this bridge over highway 17 which has colorful paintings from the local grade school kids. They change from time to time and are of the local area and surroundings.

This is my 2010 Norco hard tail MTB. It's pretty nice to climb on at 23.5 lbs, not the lightest but much better than 30 lbs!

My reward for the effort was a sandwich from a new restaurant that opened up in Campbell named Mendocino Farms Sandwich Co. Below is a pesto chicken on ciabatta bread. Pretty tasty sandwich!

So this is my entry into the Bike, Hike, Run contest... just kidding. But a post similar to this would definitely qualify.

Bike looks good man, how long have you had it and what sort of spec is it?
I would love to be riding in those temps at the moment, it's more around the 100degree mark out here and the sweat is stinging my eyes.
Good job with the hills too, worked it out to around 500 metres (sorry for the metric) which is quite a lot over a short distance.

I've had the bike for 3 years or so, bought the frame used from a racer in Canada. It's full carbon, 1x10 drivetrain, 23.5 lbs. Full race version would be 21 lbs. Yes, this ride was a lot of climbing for the distance. Many countries are on the metric system, but in the USA we are still using miles, feet, yards to measure distance.

wow beautiful view
