Trek Speed Concept P1 TT/Tri bike on display at the Toronto Bicycle Show 2015.
Taken with a Nikon D5000 and kit 18-55 lens, f/3.5, 1/25 sec, ISO-1600, 18mm focal length. The poor lighting and dark background made this a difficult shot without my usual off-camera flash setup. Used CorelPHOTOPAINT to lighten things up a little.
The Speed Concept a time trial bike also suitable for triathlons. What this means is that it is designed for a race against the clock only, not a mass start race with other riders close around you. For this reason it is designed to be as aerodynamic as possible, with sacrifices for handling and weight in this pursuit. For example, the aero riding position with the elbows/forearms on the two pads and the hands on or near the end of the middle long bars that stick out (known as aero bars, not to be confused with the chocolate bar of the same name), reduces maneuverability considerably, and there are no brake levers on these bars, so when emergency braking is required, the rider must move their hand position to the secondary bars in order to brake. This is unacceptable while group riding, and any smart group ride will outlaw aero bars for this reason.
A very interesting, very beautiful, and very fast (for this one discipline) bike.
