A tribute to my Dad

in #curie4 years ago

My Dad was a steelworker, a hard working steelworker in Rotherham UK, The Don Valley area from Attercliffe in Sheffield to the edge of Rotherham town center was home to many steelworks, including British Steel - Templeborough works, which was my Dads workplace..

Following the 1980 strike, the Steel industry in the area suffered many many redundancies, which my dad was one of... Moving onto less skilled, worse paid work.

The Templebrough site continued to produce steel until 1993, and sat idle and part demolished until 1998-1999 when the site was transformed into the Magna Science Adventure Centre, which shows the history of steelworks in the area, it sill has some of the original melting furnaces which now show visitors and schoolchildren how steel was made.

Close to the site is this monument, called Steelhenge, which is made up of Iron ingots.

I spent a night up there spinning wire..

Unfortunately my Dad passed away a few months after taking this shot..

Still missed.
