Lately iv'e had friends asking me why i use the hashtag Curie in all of my articles, most people know that Curie is a program designed to find and help new authors and those who have been here for a while, but most people who know me, know that I very rarely openly support something or someone in my work or personal life as much as I have @Curie, So today i'm going to go down the list as to why I voted for Curie as my witness and why I continue to support them, and hopefully why you should also support them.
Keeping in mind this is in no way a shill post as private advertising on my blog as anyone who has followed me for a few months knows how anti-cronyism I am when it comes to gaming articles, this is my legitimate review of Curie and the reasons behind why I support them.
What is Curie
From Curiesteem.com
Curie is a meritocratic, voluntary organization which supports the development and growth of new and existing authors on the Steem blockchain. We have multiple methods of growth, which include but not limited to: direct curation, supporting curation communities, and supporting community projects and development of applications which use the Steem blockchain.
Curie was and is the answer to a question that seemingly got overlooked after steemit launched, how do we attract quality caliber writers to steemit and keep them here if the whales of steemit are looking out for themselves first? I joined mid last year and has some success, but it wasn't until I was finally ready to cash out that I changed my blog to writing about what i'm passionate about, gaming, and on my first post @Curie showed up and gave me an amazing upvote, this continued for a few weeks until i took my first "paycheck" out from steemit and realized I was making enough that I could do this full time.
This is essentially what @Curie is about, a meritocratic program designed by people who understand that for the steemit blockchain to expand, some one needs to take it upon themselves to help keep skilled writers on steemit and keep them invested so that eventually we too end up helping to support unrecognized writers in a trickle down effect that so far has been working.
If you'd like to know more about @curie you can find their white paper at http://curiesteem.com/ and navigate to the whitepaper section.
So that's the standard explanation of @curie, now that that's out of the way I want to get into my reasons as to why i joined their curation trail and why I voted for them as witness in my own words.
Meritocracy is what Steemit should strive for.
Steemit has a great base design, a social media platform that rewards quality and elevates quality contributors, unfortunately whenever money comes into the mix it quickly changes to how the most amount of money can be made for the least amount of effort, unfortunately there is A LOT of this that happens, specifically i'm referring to my own niche brand in gaming, there are some really under recognized writers on steemit that should be getting more attention from whales and dolphins, but are usually ignored when they see $$$ for up-voting "populist" content, I'm now going to name names, but I can tell you there are some $200-300 reviews out there that wouldn't even fly in grade school.
Curie seeks to undermine this by not only recognizing under recognized writers, but also by supporting them til they can get a base of their own, as far as I know there is no way to bribe @curie or to curry favor with it's reviewers and curators, it's a true meritocratic system where quality trumps connections, exactly what steemit should strive for to set itself a part from things like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, but unfortunately falls victim to, way too often, since @curie itself is a meritocratic system, the developers, reviewers and curators are all decentralized which means no one is too big to be replaced or reprimanded, it also means that the best of the best inside the curie program rise to the top.
I'll admit I don't know the intricacies of the @curie hierarchy, but the people I have had interactions with, they themselves provide quality content and excellent curation on great posts, personally i'd love to later down the track join them myself, but at the moment i'm content with where I'm at, but Curie has done what mean curation trails attempt to do but always end up the same way, inept and eventually corrupted, given Curie' decentralized "government" and emphasis on quality, they have carved out the path as being one of the most recognized and trusted organizations on the steemit blockchain.
It changed my life.
Now on to the biggest reason iv'e chosen Curie as my witness and why I post in the #curie section with my reviews, most people don't know me personally because well, I don't really advertise it, but iv'e suffered from pretty chronic insomnia for most of my life, my sleeping patterns are pretty god damn disjointed, I initially came to Steemit because i had the chance to do what I love(writing) with the incentive of money being there to support myself, it was slow going in the beginning and eventually I decided i might have to call it quits.
That was until I switched my blog around and decided to write what I was truly passionate about, gaming, that i first became aware of Curie, on the Tomb Raider review it was upvoted by over 25 SBD and my follow up review for Rise Of The Tomb Raider received over 30 SBD, at that time I had no idea how valuable SBD actually was, over the course of 2 or 3 weeks i accumulated around 115 SBD, which at the time I thought was about $115 USD, to my surprise however nearly $1000 USD showed up in my account, needless to say i completely flipped out.
Since i'm Australia that roughly translated in around 1300 dollars which meant i essentially just made a months worth of rent and groceries, for someone who went from roughly 500 dollars a fortnight to 1300 a fortnight, needless to say i was fucking ecstatic as I could help my parents out with money in a huge way now, this has since continued and things have only gotten better for me and while I have made a lot of supporters of my writing over the past few months, Curie has literally changed the direction of my life and my families life and given me the ability to invest for a future in writing.
This is why I fully endorse and support Curie and the hard working team of reviewers and curators they have working for them and why i usually post in the curie hashtag, it's pretty hard not to support a program that actively seeks out users to elevate and changes their income based on their guiding principles of meritocracy and originality and one that doesn't fall victim to the wages of greed and continually stays transparent on their ideals, goals and directions and one that has personally affected my life in an extremely positive way.
Perspective,Motivation and Success of their vision
My personal experience aside, the objective truth of Curie is that it puts your goals into perspective while also giving you motivation that at any time Curie could sweep through and up-vote your content, i know personally I keep this in mind whenever i'm writing something so that it can be the best possible version of the review/article it can be, while this is also a personal achievement and goal of my own to be the best reviewer on the site, it's also at the back of my mind that a curie team member will probably be watching and in that sense I feel that their goal to elevate the quality of content on Steemit is a rousing success.
I can't speak for others but I know personally it's made me more efficient in my writing and more prone to creating quality articles instead of throwaways and aiming to produce the best content i possibly can, I'd love to hear from others who have been up-voted by curie as to their motivations when it comes to attracting reviewers from curie to your blog as I only have my own personal experience to go off but i'm inclined to think people may be in the same boat as me when it comes to the motivation factor of Curie.
Personally even If i wasn't a benefactor of Curie i'd still be actively supporting them, one of my biggest complaints about steemit when I first arrived here was the whale/money dynamic driving down the quality of the site since people were essentially begging for up-votes and whales formed cliques around their friends/fans,not saying this is true for all Whales but it happens a lot.
Detached from the monetary aspect however, personally I enjoy the idea of Curie on a site like Steemit and hope that more follow in it's footsteps to keep raising the bar for quality, sure some people aren't always going to get big on steemit but it's the concept that is so endearing to me and many other people, money is a great motivated, and when the motivation for the money comes from working hard it's a win win situation(even though sometimes i'd love one of those whale up-votes for doing nothing so i can take the day off!)
But to me @curie is a continuing source of motivation as it has rapidly changed my life and given me a lot more freedoms and that is why I support the @curie team and consistently will since I firmly believe that the more people they help to establish themselves on steemit the more of us that will support others as well as I have started to do recently even if my up-vote isn't worth all that much.
So the big "question" i guess you could say is, is this a public endorsement of @curie through my blog, something I said i'd never do, well it technically isn't, even though i personally support this amazing project, i'm going to leave it up to you guys as usual to take away your own meaning from this review and come to your own conclusions, I know some people are against it and some people are for it and I don't want to try and force my opinion on either side.
So i'm going to simply restate that @curie has changed my life for the better and I believe, given time it will elevate the quality of steemit through rewarding unique contributors on steemit and they will continue to have my support.
@Curie absolutely rocks, no two ways about it. The stuff their curators recognize is well worth recognition, and it's great to see that sudden rush of upvotes when the curation trail picks up one of your articles. :)
Thanks for the post, I liked your records, you are a professional of your business. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the post..
Hoping that steemit will change my life too...
@curie is already one of the bloggers whom i idolize the most here in steemit.^^
God Bless more power!
