Steemit Openmic Week 91- "Absences"
an original song and awesome collaboration

Images property of @shookriya

We start off today's Author Showcase with a "Super Awesome Collaboration!" That truly is the best way to described it. We have two Open Mic favorites @shookriya and @lillywilton performing a song written by @shookriya. I absolutely love the echoing of the lyrics and their reasoning behind doing it -

When I shared this tune with Lilly it was pretty raw and sparse and I hadn't been able to go any farther with it since writing it in December. I feel like she really brought it to another level. She was really sensitive to the mood of the song and I feel like her additions to the song built on what I wrote and yet also brought a fresh perspective, her idea of echoing my vocals to augment the feeling of two people separately longing for each other was just brilliant.

Perhaps it is just me, but @lillywilton's part with the "woooo oooo ooo ooooo" reminds me of the classic "Siren's Song" meant to lure sailors into the rocky coastlines and to ultimately shipwreck. Only in this instance it is luring the man that is absent back to her.

It worked so well and I certainly look forward to hearing more collaborations like this one in the future! Be sure to check out both of their pages as they are very active in the music community here on the Steem Blockchain.

Ulog 005 : Reincarnating the stairway to the library
of my Alma Mater through a mural painting

Up next we have a young artist who since I have known him here on the Steem Blockchain has grown not only as an artist, but as a person as well. @ligarayk recently graduated from school and will be starting college soon. His art evolves almost every time he does a new piece, and he is loaded with talent.

This post is about the next evolution in his art career. He was hired to paint a mural at his old school. He hired a friend to work with him and they created this great mural encouraging reading and leading up to the school's library.

Be sure to check out his blog page for his new Doodle Portraits. They are awesome, and I think you might even be able to hire him to turn your photo into one, I am not sure on that last part. Regardless they are very cool to stare at for a while so you can get a look at every little detail.

Go read the full story and see the finished mural.

Macro Monday (a little early) [Original Photography]

We now move onto some macro photography from one of our own, @markangeltrueman. When he isn't curating great content, or building a literal army of bots to make things around here easier for people, he fancies himself a photographer. It's a good thing too, because he is an incredible photographer!

Whether it be drone footage, London street photography, or the macro photography here he pretty much has it all mastered. Be sure to click through to the post to see more awesome shots he just ran out of the house quick to go grab and make this post before leaving on a week long holiday. Imagine the result if he took his time in doing it!

Go see all of the amazing macro photography.

The new book is finished

@kaganovic just got done with the illustrations for her new children's book! It will be released in Norway with plans to add a Russian and an English edition. The really great thing about her illustrations is that even without having any of the words for the story you can already imagine a good bit of the it just from the visuals provided.

Be sure to stay tuned to Nastya's blog page for updates. She just posted what the cover of the book will look like - Cover of the book

The Grave (Weekend freewrite)

Images property of @marie-jay

Today's Author Showcase closes with some amazing fiction, as usual. This time the story comes to us from the Weekend Freewrite contest run by @mariannewest. The contest gives you the option to choose from the easier single prompt, or tougher three part prompt. The three part prompt gives you the following - The First Sentence, The Interference, and The Dramatic Twist. You only get one prompt at a time if you are playing by the rules. You are given five minutes to write from that prompt, and then you open the next one and so on until you have a fifteen minute freewrite story.

The prompts that led to this featured story from @marie-jay were as follows:

The First Sentence: She felt compelled to pick up the pencil. When she did, it started...
The Interference: (you must continue your story with this line) “Did you hear that Mike called the company president an asshole?" he said.
The Dramatic Twist: maintenance is required, clearly

Now head on over and read what @marie-jay came up with from those prompts. A story of an abusive relationship which appeared it would continue even after the abuser had died.

Then go find this week's contest and who knows perhaps your story could be good enough for a Curie upvote!

Go read, The Grave by @marie-jay

Thank you so much for mentioning the freewrite! Some amazing stories have come from those prompts! I am always amazed by the creativity of the writers.

You're very welcome! It is a great source for some exceptional content. I loved @marie-jay's story and a few others.

I wrote my first ever fictional story last week for @mctiller's twentyfourhourshortstory contest and loved it. Pretty sure I will be entering both contests and some others now. The prompts are great to get the imagination flowing.

Glad you found the freewriters. The prompts really sometimes take you places where you didn't even think you ever would go :)

Our goal is to expose undiscovered musical talents as well. Glad to have discovered you! Maybe we can collaborate to help build the Steem independent artist community.

Wow wow wow wow ❤️ Thank you so much for featuring our work on Shook's song.

And thank you for sharing your impressions of the "oooh"s and echoes. I had similar intentions when listening to and working on the song, and it's really cool to see that those choices read across.

So many thanks to you and the rest of the curie fam ❤️
