The people of Akwa Ibom State are culturally homogeneous with a common identity and are reputed to be the first settlers in the present day south eastern Nigeria. The three major dialectal groups are ibibio, Annang and Oron.
Located in the south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
The cultural similarity amongst the people of the state is also epitomized in folklore, songs, dances, food, beliefs and mythology.
The people are farmers, craftsmen and merchants.
Arts
The museum (Oron museum, Oron) houses some finest carvings, relics, artifacts and other valuable antiquities such as masquerade costumes and pottery.
Festivals
The people is Akwa Ibom are known for some of these festivals;
- Usoro Usuuk Udia(new yam festival) which is celebrated every June and September.
- Usoro Iyak(fishing festival) celebrated every November and December.
-Usoro Ikon(melon festival) celebrated in the month of September.
