The Gate to the Temple Gwan Chock Sa

in #culture7 years ago

There were 2 gates to get to the Temple Gwan Chock Sa
The name of temple is believed to get after the name of the village.
The meaning of the name was interesting.
Gwan means 'put water'
chock means 'candle light'
Put water on candle light ? Does it have any meaning ?
I guess that it means 'put more power on candle light'

Usually Buddhist temple got their name from the cores of Buddha's teaching or specific meaning of the temple.
Even though this temple didn't follow the precedent, the meaning of Gwan Chock has enough ironical characteristics to be a name of this temple.

Candle light could be interpreted in 2 ways. One is the truth, the other is evil passions.
You put water on the light of truth to put off to get real truth, and you put water on the evil passions to remove it.

This kinds of first gate means this temple is big.
But the colors of ceiling was old and faded.

IMG_5710.JPG

This temple must be large and powerful in the past.
But now this temple gradually lost the glory of the past.

IMG_5711.JPG

From the first gate to next gate, there were small stores selling foods like snack and beverage.
The stores were small and old. People visiting was few.

IMG_5714.JPG

The old woman was sitting and preparing the food to sell.
Her face without expression made me melancholy.
How long has she lived in this small place?
For what people is living ?

IMG_5715.JPG

At the 4 heaven king gate, I paid the fee to enter into the Temple.
The old and dried firewood-like man was receiving money.
Heaven king in Buddhist temple is the protector of the Paradise.
They keep the paradise at 4 directions, east, west, south and north.

IMG_5717.JPG

In this temple, they didn't write the number of 4 which means the directions.
I could not remember this kinds of case, so it was impressive.

IMG_5720.JPG

There were 2 heaven kings at each side.
People passing this gate is praying for forgiving their sins

Before me one young couple passed this gate, they put some money for mercy of the kings.

The statues were not clean.
It seems that they didn't clean for a long time.
I was sorry about that.

These temple looks old but very calm . Like those two haven king's expression. Thanks for sharing .

An interesting visit to a temple with an intriguing name!

Fire and water - two of the four elements that make up the world, @slowwalker

I can hear the monks chanting:

With lights brightly shining
Abolishing this gloom
I adore the Enlightened One,
The Light of the three worlds
.

As you rightly point out water can be used for cleansing and purification as candles can be used for offerings.

I can almost inhale the sweet smell of incense.

But it appears this temple has fallen into disuse, its paintings are faded and its statues dirty.

Even the nearby vendors selling snacks and refreshments seem tired and bored.

You alone are left to appreciate the legacy of the past, @slowwalker, and to mourn its fading glory.

thanks for sharing

The heaven kings looks menacing yet forgiving. Impressive statue. They do need some cleaning though. :)

Haha

Someone should help out in cleaning.. :)

Its so exciting to be on the ground floor. I think most people don't realize how lucky we are to be a part of this as a community. Things of this magnitude are usually only available to the elite. If the power of the community could be harnessed the growth could be exponential

photos and explanations about the shrine very detail I really like your post @ slowwalker

Excellent culture post. I really love this post.

I love reading about places and cultures... One more place on my travel list to cross out. :)

절은 보기만 해도 마음이 편한 것 같습니다.
그 곳을 거닐기만 해도 역시 평안한 마음이 오는 것이 불교의 어떤 정신에서 비롯되는 것이 아닐까 생각됩니다.

@slowwalker, nice introduction about temple, good post and outstanding pictures.thanks for sharing,

interesting stories about Kwan Chock Sa's temple, and each person has their own work and beliefs, such as putting money for forgiveness ...

Not bad for mental health

that's the problem .., in my opinion forgiveness can not be bought with money

money with praying

if I have to choose I choose to pray, by praying we can get the grace of god that is more valuable than money

thanks for reply @slowwalker have a great weekend

you too have a nice weekend

Thanks for sharing the information😀

cool fotos ;) 👍

interesting to see the entrepreneur there , wonder how busy she gets

wow...
where is it....

Where is this place ?

Thank you for taking us on this remarkable journey. Good evocative pictures. Lovely little temple and it is a shame it's being neglected. Unfortunately that's progress, the young move away and the old are left to fend for themselves and cleaning a temple would be hard for them. Maybe some young people will read this post, and decide as an adventure, to go to this very temple and help clean it. we can wish.

I love the celling photos- very beautiful.

Hello my dear friend)) Can you tell me what this statue is in the last photos?)) I do not know who it is and I'm very interested))) I will be very grateful)) Thanks for the interesting publication)))) Photos are gorgeous))

Fantastic photography! I hope to see more from you.

Wonderful pictures, I like the gateway it looks very regal. Its a shame the statues are dusty - although maybe they are so old touching them with even delicate cloth could damage them.

That was a good read about temples and Buddhism.

Thank you for sharing.

Steemit is the gate to heaven

I really think that it means : put more power on candle light man!
Your question about : For what are we living? makes me thinks a lot on life mate...
