Faces in the History and Dialogue with the Past

Today I’d like to post shapes of korean in history. How many times do you look at your self in the mirror. Looking themselves is supposed to be one of human instinct.
Everybody is interested in own appearance.
Why people are looking at themselves. I don’t satisfy with the explanation of the instinct.

In my opinion, phenomenon of looking themselves is more than the instinct. I think it is a kinds of process to find their existence.
As you know, my favorite hobby is traveling and looking around the museums.
I found an interesting clay roof tile in the museum of the BaekJae Dynasty. If you had read my postings before, you may acknowledge that period. BakJae Dynasty had lasted for 18 BC - 660 AD.
The face was drawn inside of the clay tile.

The face was drawn with red line. it was very simple but vivid. Nose was big comparing to normal korean face. When I saw at first, a strong question hit my head. Why did he paint this face ? What make him draw his face ? Who was he ? In front of the clay, I had thought so many things. And I had talked with unknown painter.

Next to the clay of red face, there was a another face carved on the clay tyle.
In this case, face was more simple. There were 3 rounds, 2 small and 1 big. 2 small rounds looked like the eyes and I big round looked like the mouth.

This face made me think it as a play of young apprentice. The face was very tough.
He might be teenager who had learned the techniques. He might be sent far from home. He might miss his mom. He could be tired and boring, so he might’ve played with his friends.
My imagination brought me here to there. Imagination is my favorite hobby.
It is my style of dialogue with the past and history. In that moment the imagination make me fly far away.

This face is a male roof tile, there are two types in roof tile in korean traditional house roof. It is strange to differentiate roof tile with male and female. It depends on the function of the tile. Also it reflected the world viewpoint of Korean and North East Asian society. Tai-chi is the representative example of Yin-Yang. Male and female could be said as different expression of Yin-Yang.

This tile is the end part of roof tile. What do you think about this face ? What made them mould a face like this ?
Answer ?
Nobody knows, Who knows ?
Just have a time to dialogue with a man who made this.

Thank you for reading.

Nice to see ancient korean history

an intriguing post, @slowwalker. You are a man who pays attention to life when all the rest of the world seems asleep to its beauty and wonders.

What makes a worker want to leave his imprint on the world? Perhaps we all lament our fleeting lives and leaving our mark is a way to defeat time.

Recognizing our own face is a mark of consciousness, of being self-aware. It distinguishes us as humans.

The one thing you find when you study history is that fashion and culture changes, but the human heart never changes.

You began a dialogue with the past by using your imagination to connect with a person centuries ago who was making his mark on a roof tile.

By writing this post, you are making a mark of your own.

Deep thoughts to ponder, my friend :)

Very interesting.

This is an interesting artistic work that tells its own story. And if you are talented enough, then you can be able to read and interpret the story. I however think that the last one is telling a sad story of disappointment, pain or grief . Thanks for sharing.

My dear friend @slowwalker you write very nice and amazing post ,I love it, I'm very sad, because you did not see my post about The best restaurant "Moldavian cuisine" in the city Sergeevka near Odessa. I tried hard and worked on this article and it was not seen by many people. Look at my blog, there are photos of desserts here is one of them:
Looks very delicious true?

Very interesting! I am reading now for mexican tribes and the rituals they makes. They believe that they are the primary race and all the symbols they used are found in christianity, in the renaissance, in east culture. It is very strange. Nice post. Thanks for the good read. I started following you! Cheers!

That is super interesting to say the least haha. Very cool.

It seems like quite a few races tend to believe they are the best and brightest.

Very interesting! and Just got to know few things about korean history

wow nice!!

Yeah nobody knows, we can only assume. Maybe these tiles are only ornamental, an apprentice craft or hold something even deeper. Thanks for a good read :)

it's always amazing to see how history makes us feel that how little we know about our past. As you rightly mentioned we can only imagine what the artist was thinking while drawing that face.

Thank you for sharing dear @slowwalker!

beautiful photos

these remind to me of the Etruscan pottery and sculpture of my land.

Your imagination is wonderful that you wonder about these people who made these faces, beautiful post🌷

I am also curious, why artists form a face like that. might be more beautiful with a happy and happy expression :). mystery I hope you find the answer soon..

Thanks for sharing @slowwalker

Interesting, get to know more about thing all around the world.. Thanks to steemit

Very interesting post. The last picture particularly interest me as it looks to be one of agony and grief. Much to explore.

You do seem to enjoy going to a museum. You are good at imagining or interpreting the objects. As for the last face, the expression shows boredom or sadness? I don't know, we don't know. I remember years ago when my uncle came back from Korea, he gave me a frame in which there were many different masks, one of them is just like the last face in this post. Thanks for sharing this, as if you were taking us to the museum as well.

Always good to read about history I didn't know about as well as things I did not know about. Thank you and keep it coming.

Even a piece of history could tell us a lot. Great!

Amazing post. I like this history.

I resteem now

Very good post @slowwalker. . I like your post . Thankyou for sharing 👏👏👏

WOW!!!Good post

God created man, man creates God and put in the temples, churches, homes to worship them. Is this justified that we can create God like this? If man can create God, he surely can create other humans very easily.

Friends these ancients stories of our past life of human life of the ancient centuries

I always visit your blog because you inspires me. Do what you do. Thank you very much for sharing inspiring content.

maybe the painting as a sign or a kind of writing that they hope will be remembered, because without writing history will forget, with no painting or writing then even though he has gone but the future will continue to remember it. such as bike paintings on Borobudur temple in Indonesia, and its strange thing how they know the bike in ancient times, a question that I myself can not answer ....your post very great post

I don't know the answer it's the first time when I see it thank's for this information if You find the answer don't forget to share it for us , I ve followed you !

This is a really neat idea:

In my opinion, phenomenon of looking themselves is more than the instinct. I think it is a kinds of process to find their existence.

Discovering ourselves in art is an incredible, transcendental experience.

Great post thanks for sharing.

That is amazing how faces and remanents of the past still reside on this earth and we can trace back to thousands of years ago. The one that interests me the most is the first one and it is truly amazing how it was drawn within a clay roof tile. Things like this really intrigue me so thank you for sharing it with us @slowwalker

Good post.
unique tile-making art.
does it have historical value in korea?

Really interesting clay roof tile. I'm very intrigued by the face painted inside in red. The face in the tile at the end seems to be a little sad, but watching better, looks he's blowing air...

huh, some interesting content there :) great job sir ! :)

Another great post by you.

You teach us so many things in your posts, I learn a lot honestly by reading them.

This face is a male roof tile, there are two types in roof tile in korean traditional house roof. It is strange to differentiate roof tile with male and female. It depends on the function of the tile. Also it reflected the world viewpoint of Korean and North East Asian society.
