The Tae Go Sa was very impressive on its interior decoration and ornament.
One of the most impressive art was 3 Holy figure shrine. 3 Holy figures were embossed carving and coloured with gold.
The relievo carving was unique in the temple.
The relievo had been found in the mountain, but it was the first time to see in the temple, besides golden coloured.
Below is the front board.
Gold coloured calligraphy
Looking at the carvings in dark place with candle light was fantastic.
The center, Buddha
Left, Sacred monk who attained the Dao
Right, Mountain God
3 sacred figures were result of the negotiation between the Folk traditional religion and the Buddhism. I had posted on that before. At the time of introduction of the Buddhism, the ancient kingdoms were formed in Korean Peninsula. The Kingdoms needed ruling ideology, they wanted to use the Buddhism as a national ideology.
So they needed to mitigate the folk religion. The result was the mixture between the folk religion and the Buddhism. But the Buddhism had superiority over the folk religion.
In folk religion, the highest was the heaven god. But in 3 Holly figures shrine, the highest god in the folk religion was removed and the Buddha took the highest post. And only second highest god, the mountain god, took the last position.
Anyway, it seemed the result between 2 religions
Other figures. close shot
Actually I don’t know who they are
Figures were very realistic and the atmosphere was fantastic.
How about today’s posting?
Is it helpful to understand the religion in Korea ?
Thank You.
Good writing and very interesting @slowwalker, since I follow each of your posts on @steemit, I am getting familiar with Korean culture. Looks like you really know about Korean culture, you love so homeland. Because I am a person who cares about history and culture. So I will always follow each of your writing. I wait for the next writing.
Thank you so much
you are welcome.
Hi @slowwalker, Your post reminds me of my vacation and study tour plan and my college friends to korea first. We are equally saving to be able to visit the country, but unfortunately I can not participate because there is a more important need that I must meet. Hmmm ... Thank you for sharing your story about Korea, now enough for me to see Korea only with stories and photos. 😂
It so sorry.
But i wish you have another chance to visit korea
No problem @slowwalker. Amen .. thanks 🙏
these are beautiful photos, @slowwalker. You captured the solemn atmosphere of three golden figures in a candlelit shrine. The golden calligraphy lettering and the figures carved in relief were very impressive.
You seem to adopt the viewpoint of a dispassionate observer, noting the beauty and tradition of the shrine while remaining aloof. You asked if your posting was helpful to understanding religion in Korea.
I'm left with a question. How do the three religions mentioned in your photo essays coexist? You refer to traditional folk religions, Buddhism and Catholicism. They are all distinct. And you appear to be non-religious, but your mother is a Catholic. Is it part of the Korean culture to be tolerant toward different beliefs?
This is a question that has preoccupied me for some time. Perhaps you could write about this.
A good post as always, my friend.
It looks strange for you.
In my opinion,
religion is the religion
My life is my life
My mom's life is her life.
I love my mom not for her religion but for my mom.
Of course, there exist some conflict
But if not being forced by religion, we could be tolerate
thanks, @slowwalker, I appreciate your response
nice @slowwalker
This shrine looks amazing - the carvings are so detailed!
It's interesting that they didn't only portray Buddha, but the mountain god and a representative of the Daoism as well.
It's amazing to see how buddhists treat their religion and sacred locations with so much respect.
I'd love to know even more about the history and the story behind this artwork.
I'm very interested in Buddhism and its history, so thank you for sharing this!
Thank you for your comment
The article is very interesting @slowwalker, After reading your post about:
Actually this problem has happened thousands of years ago across the region, For the sake of politics, Politicians use religion and customs.
The same thing happened in korea, at the time of the Silla dynasty, Mishil taking advantage of religion for his political interests, So the queen of Seondeok separated religion and politics at that time.
You are really specialist in Korean history
LOL...... I just read a bit about that history, at that time I was looking for the source of thousands of ceramics found in aceh, 70% came from the tang dynasty and the ming dynasty, and it's very close to .korea,
It was very useful in understand he religion in Korea @slowwalker
The golden statues are absolutely alluring and it is amazing to see how such great figures in the faith live on today and are held closely by many people.
I love Buddhism and its principles and I wish more people could adopt its teachings into our daily life.
Another Great Post about he 'very old temple'

Your post are always on point in term of writing or photography
nice post..
Korean culture really has some surreal and spiritual presence in it's artwork. I'm not real familiar with buddism or it's relatives but I think this stuff is very interesting and apparently has a quality of inner peace to it that helps it's people to relax and meditate. I'm interested in knowing more about the whole thing, but not sure where to look and also unsure if they want American white people to take part in it at all. Great post though, if you ask me. I upvoted and followed you slowwalker!
In korea, there is a temple where all monks are foreigners.
I am not Buddhist, but I am interested in Buddhism not for their ceremony but for Buddha's teaching.

How sacred and lovely is the shrine. The one with the white beard looks like Prosperity God. Understanding people's culture is a great thing to do. Always a great post from you @slowwalker. Have a great day! :)
Thank you
Always welcome! Thanks for upvoting my post btw.. very great of you :)
These are really some nice pictures you have here. I wish I could visit this place. As I am true believer of buddhism, I have a great respect for this religion and culture. They always focus on discipline, which I think should be the basis of all religions.

The Tae Go Sa looks amazing inside.
Interesting how they managed to find balance between different religions.
I do
Thank you @slowwalker!! Yes, it is very interesting to me to read and get an understanding of the religion in Korea. Also, the detail of the art is amazing and very beautiful. Very good photographs!! :-D
Thank you my friend
It is amazing how people invested so much in the figures and for their religion.
It is not only the Asian culture but also the Europeans who have invested and are still investing a lot in the art related to their religion.
Interesting
It is a kind of human character
I like the photos of interior of Tae Go Sa temple. Reading your posts I am liking Korea. Thanks.

I have visited this one. Tsuglagkhang Temple Complex, Dharamsala
I've never been in Korea and it's very interesting for me to read what you wrote in this content about the religion. Very interesting informations and beautiful pics. I hope one day to visit Korea ^_^
Wow! Those figures are beautiful and you captured them very well in your photos!
I love a good history lesson slowwalker. :) I like diving into different religions from around the world. Spiritual mythologies have always fascinated me.
It is interesting how religion has effected art throughout the coarse of time.
Thanks for the photoset slowwalker --또 다른 좋은 게시물.
Interesting. This is similar in some aspects to the buddhist art in Northern India, but obviously it is also very different since Korean folklore insn't involved; instead, in India some creatures and gods are much closer to the hindu folklore. Buddhism seems to merge very well with different cultures, which makes it very universal.
I've never been to Korea and unfortunately never will, but thanks to your fun and I can see the beauty of the place. Thank you!
