TRIBAL MARKS AND THEIR NAMES

in #culture7 years ago

I was walking on the street this morning when I saw a man with tribal marks so I decided to do some research on tribal marks because of what I saw.
As a native of yoruba land, I am not surprise about the tribal marks I saw on the man's face because I also have one on me but not as much as what is on the man's face.
*The yoruba tribal marks are the marks given to new babies to make them more attractive, beautiful or handsome, the tribal marks part of yoruba culture and the marks are quite different because it depends on the family or states you come from. In the old days it was said that it's only rich people that gives their children the marks because it just equivalent to the price of getting a good tattoo in this century of ours.
So am going to be showing you different kind of mark I make research on.
1).Egba tribal mark
It's called owu. It is six incisions on each side of the cheek. It's the indigenous type of mark for owu people in abeokuta, ogun state. You can find this facial mark on nigeria ex president chief olusegun obasnjo.

2)PELE
There are different kinds of pale because almost every yoruba tribe as their own form of pele but I only know of two pele. One is for the Ile-ife and the others is for the ijebu's, for the ijebu's their pele looks like a short dash which is the one I have on me
