keep it simple..

in #ctp2 years ago

My husband Kyle and I often talk about making our life more simple. (This is one of the many reasons we have ventured into small scale homesteading..)

We live in a society that tells us we need more. More things, more electronics, more clothes, bigger houses, new cars, more trips..

We live in a world that celebrates the hustle. The "oh, I'm just SO busy.."

But what if we slowed down?

What if we simplified our lives and took it back to basics, remembering what really mattered and what we are living for?

Since having my son, these are things that are a constant topic and boy, does he help us to remember that simple really is better.

He has a whole playroom full of toys.. do you know his favorite things to play with? The wooden spoons from my kitchen, balls, and magnets.. really any magnet- he loves them.

He is a simple little boy and it is probably my favorite thing about him.

Today- we decided to get outside early (since we are under a heat advisory all week). We got him up and dressed and headed out to a little path near our home to go on a walk.

I love watching him experience life. The smallest things bring him the most joy.
Holding our hands as we walk..
Seeing a bird fly in the sky..
Watching the ants march across the ground and butterflies land on our shoes..
He loves water and rocks and sticks. Simple things..

I am often reminded in my day-to-day with him that it is okay to slow down. It is okay not to have "all the things". Because the best things in life, really are so simple...

As the great philosopher, Farris Bueller once said "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

I agree with a lot of what you're saying in this blog. And it is something I think a lot of people on hive could do with hearing and taking notice.

For me, quality will always trump quantity. In life (living slower and more mindfully with times of meditation to find clarity), and in writing or creating content.

Ha ha, but to get less serious...

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

I love that quote and the movie Farris Bueller's day off 🙂

Thank you for your kind response! And I love movies.. all the quotes live rent-free in my mind! HAHA

Now this is precious time spent and captured for remembrance. Often, living in urban areas creates the "busyness" that becomes ingrained in our lives. If we slow down, we feel as though we're not being productive.

Thanks for sharing.

Take care.

I agree. It is easy to feel that way. It is a changing of mindset, that's for sure!

Nice post, Katie. Looks like you guys had a nice walk.

We did! <3

More things, more electronics, more clothes, bigger houses, new cars, more trips..

We need more ME TIME, the more materials things you have it can be detrimental to the ME time 😉

It's true. And it is all very distracting to the things that do deserve your attention, such as your spouse or kids. .

There is a whole movement of people called slow livers ... minimalism comes into it as well ... I feel like a lot of people are beginning to realize that a ton of "things" are not necessary ...

It is true! I am glad people are really starting to understand this.. we don't need much!

Some great points there Katie!! I try to get rid of something before I would buy something new. It doesnt always work though! lol

Thats a great tactic!

So, so precious. I love this Katie. Bless your little family ❤️ I also live a simplified life - everything I own fits in 2 suitcases and it's the gypsy life for me so I totally get it. Every morning we go to the beach or to the park at sunrise and just bathe in the present moment. I would never go back to a complicated life and I love hearing about others like me who get it 😍

Wow! that IS a simplified life! I definitely cannot fit all we own in 2 suitcases. But probably all we really need or use ..

The best things in life are indeed that simple <3

They really are!

You're a good writer sis

Thanks boo
