Why blog when you can paint with words.
Yeah right, I hear you say, paint with words! Well, that is what
I do.
Be aware of writer's block, a condition that leaves authors
and writers in total despair as they just cannot come up with
something creative.
Instead, be a painter. You may have heard how painting has
become a form of therapy for the elderly and the infirm; a way for
them to express themselves on canvas. The same is true with
writing. I never suffer from writer's block. The only reason I do not
write is because I'm lazy.
So, how do you paint with words? Think beyond the page, beyond
two-dimensions and into three then four. Breathing is good too! Calm
yourself down, relax, perhaps meditate for a few seconds if you
need to, then approach the canvas and start to paint. Let the brush
sweep across the canvas. Just choose any color and dabble, a bit
here, some there.
Time for another color. Be bold and firm, let the brush lead the paint.
Hey, we did that flower come from? I do not like flowers in my
portraits! Let's just brush that one out and fix up the nose.
Take a step back and have a look. If you find a few errors, stop using
auto-correct and auto spell check apps. Right, a few typos
touched up, and all done.
Wow, what a handsome devil!! Just need a name for this one, something
inspiring, perhaps courageous. Wait, I have it, I know the name!
Ian Ballantine: A Self Portrait (in words)
Great analogy about painting with words Ian, I do find those autocorrect thingies to be very distracting, so I just turn them all off and keep writing until I am done with a big part, then I go back and correct everything, and then repeat until I am done, stay awesome.
hi Eric, thanks for your comments. I cannot recall where I picked up the "paint with words" phrase, although a quick Google search reveals Victor Hugo as a proponent of the concept. whatever works best for you Eric. when I wrote this post I was surrounded by people talking loud and distracting me from my surf, so I thought: let's paint!
Nice painting.
