Counter-Strike Global Offensive in South Africa

What is CSGO?

So counter strike global offensive or as others call it CSGO is a first person shooter (FPS) where 2 teams of five players are put in strategically designed maps and fight it out to win 16 rounds out of 30.

The game has a unique money system that players use to purchase different tiers of weapons armor and utilities such as flash-bang grenades as well as smokes grenades and HE grenades.

Players are matched via an incognito system that calculates your "ELO". BasedFeroX has a nice blog explaining the depth of the ELO system in his blog : https://www.hltv.org/blog/10719/the-csgo-elo-system-explained

South African CSGO?

CSGO in South Africa has been and still is one of the biggest esport title within competitive gaming in South Africa.
There are teams that dedicate a lot of hours of training to fight for the number 1 spot and sponsors like MSI and Samsung have backed some of the best teams.

There is a darker side to this however, besides the CSGO gambling scandal that plagued the game and its developers Valve, competitive teams in South Africa cannot commit to solely playing csgo as a means to make a living.
South Africa has a low minimum wage rate and the cost of living is high. Players need to have a full time job and dedicate whatever time they have left at the end of the day. That already puts us at a disadvantage against some of the best in the world who can dedicate hours a day to becoming better at the game.

There is light at the end of the tunnel as more and more competitions come along with bigger and better prize pools, the "lure" to play games all day to make a living seems to be a near future rather than a dream.

We have talented players like Dimitri "Detrony" Hadjipaschali ,Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek and Ruan "Elusive" van Wyk to mention a few.

What is your favorite game to play? And how much time can you dedicate to becoming better?
