I'm part of the digital marketing team in my company and the only marketing certificate
I have is from an elective I took when I was doing my Communications degree. It was only after I graduated I saw that Google offered a free online course on the basics of Digital Marketing, on which I took. It helped.
When people say the word ‘digital’ they often think that a knowledge in IT or internet or social media suffice but no, not really. Being an expert at social media is not the same as being an expert in digital marketing.
To be a digital marketer, you need to know the back end of social media, for example, how do you use Facebook’s algorithm to target your ads to your target market? what are the keywords you need to use to promote your blogs?
To top it off, there are a lot more to marketing than just making your mark online and in order to do it right, you will have to learn at least the basics of marketing and make your way up.
