I set a financial goal for June, and that was to convert STEEM into USD in order to pay my rent. This was my first time attempting to convert cryptocurrency to fiat and it was not without fail. When trying to convert, I conveniently sent my 1387 of steem directly to @openledger which put me behind schedule. With the help of @mrwang I was able to recover those funds and proceed as planned. Now the great part is that I was able to pay me rent which was the ultimate goal, but the channels in which I went to cash out was very costly in time, crypto, and sanity. My rent is $1050 so I used a card that the bitcoin was converted on and swiped it to my Chase merchant Account (more fees) and waited 2 business days for it to clear. Then I transferred the money via ach (fees) to my landlord. There is still a remainder of cash which I haven't gotten yet but I see the glass half full.
I PAID RENT from blogging on steemit.
So yes, the road was a rough one but I learned something from this experience. I started searching steemit for similar stories and I saw that @ats-david bought a EOS 6D and PLANE TICKETS from blogging on steemit. Not only did his post reveal that we all have similar goals, but I also saw he has a different method for cashing out by using @Blocktrades and BitPay. My next goal is to get a BitPay card and convert enough crypto to go on a steemit adventure.
If any one else has a similar story, please share in the comments. If you don't have a story yet, set a goal to create one.

8/7/17 will now be marked as the day that I joined the STEEMIT Community. I have now set my own personal STEEM goal in hopes of decentralizing my life. More of a re-centralizing. I hope to grow and ascend to wherever STEEM may travel.
Cool! Up to a 36 now as well!
Glad to see you here. Hopefully we can build the largest steem mining node ever. We could take over lol.
man, that's great, congrats! Following from Ft Worth!
As always... Texas is on the map. Hope to see more of you on Seemit.
That's hopeful! Upvoted and followed :3
Thank You @carry0n nad greeting to Cyprus from Texas
^_^
congratulation @xtrodinarypilot, keep steem on buddy
@johnrenald thank you and I intend to do so. I also encourage you to steem on. I will following you sir.
yes, I do
I have a similar story using YouTube.
I'm a west Texas oil driller, and I love it!
I live in a college town north of Dallas now and noticed all the despair among the young men about how they couldn't get jobs. But in my world we couldn't get enough people.
After getting some of these young men off the student loan carousel and putting them on the high-dollar, blue-collar world of the oil field I thought to myself "I think I can use that YouTube thing and make a little money"
Over the course of four years of videos, I made about $5800 that I used to take my family on a sweet vacation to the Caribbean.
Cool. I do a bit on YT also. I will check you out!
West Texas Oil Man? I have land in far west Texas. https://steemit.com/travel/@xtrodinarypilot/welcome-to-badlands-tx-outlaw-country
Yeah man its important to teach those Odessa-Midland boys that there are other ways to reel in the dough.
I actually liven in Denton these days. Moved here for Barnett work and then the natural gas play died out. I've been bouncing around Pecos and Jal, NM lately.
I can't understand these kids. Either they don't seek out knowledge or they have literally been taught that their smartphones will give them a better life.
It's fun getting them out of that mindset and showing them other routes are available. I'm not saying to stick with the oil field forever. But while you're young, single, no kids, no health problems, then the oil field can be a great world to get in to.
I know a 24 year old named Brandon who's saved up $300,000 or so and is looking to retire by 30.
Love that kid.
I'm behind' trying to retire by 40.
Excellent! And rather inspiring. I set a goal for myself to learn how to transfer SBD's to an exchange, sell for bitcoin and transfer to my wallet. Along the way I bought some other altcoins that interested me. It's a little intimidating being a total neophyte at all this, but stories like yours give me "let's try this" courage.
Thanks for sharing, I look forward to reading about how you accomplish your future goals!
It can be risky. Yeah for me it was like going all in when gambling. The reward far ouweighed the risk. The reward was wht i learned. Its funny because today I bought litecoin after realizing how all this works
"lets try this" courage... :) it couldn't have been said any better..upvoted and followed
That is amazing! I am hoping to be able to do similar things soon.
You will i didnt even think it was possible.
I have faith in the platform, I have been able to withdraw a small amount. But I am still building my account...
My faith was like a roller coaster for a bit. I guess it just takes time.
How long did it take to build up enough STEEM to pay your rent? Is this something you're able to do monthly now, or is it an "every once in a while" thing?
I started in February and blogged consistently. Then I started curating and getting involved in other steemit communities before I saw a boost. Before that it was 1 or 2 cents here and there which can be nauseating. To put things in perspective, I pay 100's a month to facebook to post and be seen. on STeemit a earning a penny is better than spending a dollar.
i will like to have you on my upcoming interview...can you send me your chat user name, that's if you don't mind sir.
Yaaaa, the dream realized! I'm so happy for you! Also thank you for breaking this down in such a clear way, the process can be so intimidating! Wonderful read so happy for you, upvoted and resteemed for sure! :-)
Very intimidating for sure. It is definately a learning process.
Congrats. Resteemed.
Thanks @rodneypbesme
I am totally new to Steem, so I would say my short term goal is to cover a $400US Student loan payment.
Congratulations on your work! Do you have tips about what useful content people enjoy upvoting, commenting and tipping on?
Honestly @timeshiftarts you can definitely cover that student loan debt by bloggin. As far as content, just keep posting your own personal unique content. Curation is just as important. Up vote, resteem, and comment as often as possible. Also get active on discord and steemit.chat. you will see and increase of engagement without a doubt.
I am new to steemit can you guide me
I just learned this but I would be happy to assist in any way. I made the mistakes so you dont have to. Dont forget to resteem.
How I can earn from it.
Keep posting and keep upvoting and resteeming. You rewards will grow. It's really that simple. The hardest part is waiting for your rewards and followers to ramp up.
Ok I will try best to do these things
Fantastic Post! You have inspired me to begin planning my own adventure!
Matter-O-Fact...I'm scheduling weekly adventure time in my calendar right now so I can truly make this happen.
Huge thanks for the energy boost!
Absolutely @wipgirl I'm going to follow you and I look forward to joining you on your Steemit adventures!
Excellent! Good for you!
Thank You @mikej I hope to see a post from you as well about earning and spending steem
Oh I sure hope so too! Believe me.
thats fantastic news, lets hope, that one day all steemians can pay their rent by posting here...
and stop paying facebook to sponsor their content lol. I'm guilty of doing it for my businesses.
100% Agree !
Good job, this is how you should do it!
Whats your goal on steemit?
Congratulations, you did a good job.
Thanks @carpinus do you have any goals.
This was a awesome article/blog post! Hopefully u can check it out article of current BTC facts.
@Styxer Thanks!
thanks.. I have a few months before I have to deal with this. There's only one exchange in Canada and I haven't gotten any useful tips on what to do (other than one exchange in BC)
Live person to person exchange or online?
I know of localbitcoins but online exchange would be easier. I don't even know if localbitcoins will accept steem in my area.
Online exchange would be the way to go. It would be awesome to open a brick and mortar exchange in Houston.
Congrats on your success and hitting your goal. I'm just starting out on Steemit, so my goal at first is simply to create content people enjoy viewing. Everything else is bonus. ~ I give you the gift of an upvote. :-)
Thanks for the upvote. And i raise your upvote with a resteem lol. I will start following you so I can consume that enjoyable content.
And with this post, you're already doing a great job preparing for next months rent! Thanks for your tale of aggravation and for referring us to the Blocktrades and Bitpay method! Upvoted and Re-steemed!
Thanks @steemmate it was definately frustrating as fcuk thanks for resteeming and upvoting
Youre followed
haha cool you too
You are amazing, surviving a tantalizing side job
one that could surely drive you insane if you let it. lol
Oh I would like to too!
with a little bit of time and effort, you will.
How long did you work to achieve that in total?
From Feb to May for $4000
I'd like to build a tiny recording studio off of profits from Steemit one day (but really that's just the beginning). My main question is this though: why aren't Steemians using the escrow function on eSteem to buy and sell Steem for fiat ? Is it happening and I don't know or is there some inefficiency that makes it impractical? It just seems like it could solve so many problems.
Dude my friend @mrwang is trying to build a studio for filming through the money he raised on steemit.
I think he's gotten a little closer than me to his goal but I'll keep trying lol
My goal on Steemit? I haven't really given it much thought. But how cool would it be if I paid off my student loans using Steemit?
wow..this type of stories gives me hope toward my own goal;to pay my tuition fee(which is due in 4 months any way) with my earnings here on steemit. as a students here in Nigeria, also in a state university which is very expensive..(N125,000 naira) you all can help me to archive this by following please. just joined last month,i want to get followers before i start posting ...thanks.
great.....
im also waiting for my first payment
Congrats! Good on ya!
Thanks... dont forget to let us know if you have any financial goals for steemit.
Upvoted, resteemed and following. I am embarking on this journey as well, and need to learn all I can so I don't go down a rabbit hole and lose money trying to do this correctly. Your post is exactly the kind of help and information about withdrawing steem I was seeking, so I am going to pay close attention to your discussions here on it in the comments!
Thanks!
Congratulations!
@freedomnation thanks, I know soon you'll be blogging about your successes on steem as well.
Hope so! Thanks!

@aelross you will get there. Trust me when I say that if I can do it, so can you.
Can you help me out and check out my blog and resteem one of my posts that you like?
That is awesome. I just started on here and I don't really quite understand the financial aspect of it. I really am enjoying this platform as way of communicating and meeting new people. Making money would be a sweet bonus especially as much as you made!
