IBM and the Danish transport and logistics company Maersk announced on January 16 that they are joining forces to create an even unnamed company with a supply chain based on Blockchain
The goal of the venture is the commercialization of Blockchain for all aspects of the global supply chain system, from shipments to ports and banks, to customs offices.
Blockchain technology in a unique way provides a special control of the logistics industry, because it can replace tedious and unsecured documents with secure digital records, which are also much more transparent.
Maersk's main sales clerk Vincent Clerc, who will chair the newly formed board of the company, has been quoted in the official communiqué:
"The potential of offering a neutral, open digital platform for secure and easy ways to exchange information is huge, and all players in the supply chain can benefit."
The offer is the implementation of the annual plan of both companies, each of which has invested in Blockchain also in many other ways. The joint venture hopes to start offering software in the third quarter of 2018.
