How Square, Inc. Could Change The World of Cryptocurrency

The thoughts you are about to read come from the mind of a curious human, one who wants to see the world of money change for the better.

Square has recently decided to begin offering bitcoin sales to individual users of their Cash App. This application is intended for peer-to-peer transfers of funding in a quick and secure way.

Before this recent news highlight that has been labeled as a “last ditch effort” by some, Square was known by many as “that chip that goes into your iPad so people can pay you.”
I’ve been to few hipster bars and coffee shops that don’t use Square and it’s presence has grown drastically in the past two years. It has offered a simple and mobile standard for Point of Sale purchasing.

So here it comes, the “I wonder if” portion of this simple write-up...

I wonder if Square is actually intending on stopping at buying and selling bitcoin to their cash app users.

I wonder why any company that has the power to integrate cryptocurrency purchases into point-of-sale transactions would stop there. Why? How could you?

I don’t believe they will. In fact, I think if Square only ever offers the buying, selling, and movement of bitcoin via P2P, they have sorely let down the reality of cryptocurrency.
I wonder if, within the next year or so, we will get a chance to see their systems incorporating cryptocurrency? Limiting your influence to simply easier access is frustratingly pointless when with a bit of elbow grease, you could turn cryptocurrency from a “gambling investment opportunity” to “a mainstream form of payment.”

I wonder if Square realizes the capabilities and widespread influence they could have on the cryptocurrency market.

I want to use cryptocurrency anywhere. Square is everywhere. With more coins becoming moveable almost atomically, surely Square has noticed that it wouldn’t be that far of a reach to enable their POS systems to accept these payment forms. But alas, I shall continue to wonder and hope. The pieces are on the table, they simply need to be assembled.
