Goldman Sachs has officially hired a quantitative trader named Justin Schmidt as head of digital asset markets to help it navigate client interests. As of right now, the firm is not yet market making in bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency.
They are working to offer clients exposure to bitcoin through the bitcoin futures contracts offered on the Cboe Global Markets and CME Group exchanges. It is acting in an agent-only capacity by access to crypto on the exchanges to clients who place an order with Goldman Sachs.
The biggest intrigue with this move is the beginning of an institutional eye on crypto. Whenever this occurs, regulation will follow.
