Are you protecting your Crypto funds | Stay Alert Stay Safe

Hey Steemians,

Are you sure your Cryptocurrencies are safe within your private or online wallets?

Are you taking necessary precautions to transmit your funds ?

In the real incident, last week one of our friends lost his funds due to his own negligence. He invested in an ICO and gave them his ether wallet address to receive the coins. He had some technical issue with his system where after copying and pasting wallet address, the alpha-numeric digits reshuffle own their own. He was warned by @BunnyChum strictly to fix the issue. After the release of ICO when we did not receive the coin, he directly got in touch with ICO admins and got to know that they have already sent the coins to the address he mentioned. Now due to his negligence, while copying and pasting the ether wallet address, he did not bother to verify the address before submitting. In this irrevocable action and his carelessness, he has lost nearly $500.

Referring to recent news, one of the Trojan name CryptoShuffle is also harming your computers in the same way and can result in stealing your funds/coins from you. Kaspersky Labs, leading firm in CyberSecurity, has issued an warning to Cryptocurrencies owners that assuming if there coins are safe in their private wallet, cannot be 100% correct. This newly discovered Trojan is harming users via getting into their systems and making alterations with Clipboard. While processing a transaction, when you try to copy and paste a wallet address, it automatically changes that particular address to their own, resulting in stealing your funds via forwarding your money to their own wallet address instead of the wallet address that you copied and intended to paste.

The easiest way to avoid this harm and protect your Cryptocurrencies is your Alertness. Whenever you are making a transaction or sending/receiving money from/to your wallets, you need to spend few extra seconds and be alert enough to manually verify the address that you have copied and pasted. It should be exactly same as you intended to copy/paste. Also you should consider using some reliable anti-virus anti-malware application in your computers to avoid such incidents. When we are fully aware that any transactions in Cryptocurrencies are irreversible, why not be extra careful when we are forwarding our money to any other wallets. With the increase in popularity of Cryptocurrencies, the risk of loosing them also increase. Its only we and our alertness that can help us to protect our money from online burglars and hackers.

This really needed to be out there with people. Specially for people who doesn't take much attention to their computers...

We need to remember this is blockchain. As this technology rises more and more threats are coming it's way...

Great article, thanks!

You are welcome @xwerk

you try to copy and paste a wallet address, it automatically changes that particular address to their own

Very smart way to steal money indeed.

My tip: NEVER run an executable (.exe) you don't know, specially if it's not signed. Just by doing that you avoid 90% of security problems. Also, be sure everything in your computer/device is up to date.

Thanks for you advise @nehomar.. Keep helping the community!

The first time I send anything to a new platform I always just send one or 2 tokens or some allowable dust just to test, before the full load

That is a wonderful method to avoid loss mate.. All the best @a-kopf

Thank you, this very useful information!

Thank you @thesteemster
I am glad you liked this information!

Glad to see this information being posted.

This is a serious problem and I think as far as we have come with computer security in the last decade, there are many people who do not take it as serious as they should.

I was bitten once and it hurt too much to allow myself to be bitten again (thankfully long before I was invested in crypto).

Please stay safe out there friends, take your computer and internet very seriously, one brick comes out and your whole jenga tower comes down.

Thanks mate @andy371
Wish you luck for your future investments!

Scammers are doing weird and wonderful things, one really has to be alert to so many things that can go wrong. Thanks for this information @pkalra

As always use proper precautions, ideally run your fullnodes on updated Linux with local firewalls and locked down user accounts.

Commerce is evolving. A few years from now, digital currencies will play a central role in our lives, replacing coins, cash, cards and cheques. They will enable us to transact more easily, more cost-effectively and with greater security than ever before.

Very nice article enjoy it tremendously!

Thank you @cotinetwork

This is a real concern and people needs to be diligent with their transactions and also, how they store their cryptos in general.
I wrote this article which is targeted to people still dragging their feet and feeling like they missed the boat and that it is too late to participate in the exploding crypto/blockchain sector. https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@motowngold/bitoin-crosses-7000-dollars-what-can-you-do-about-it-some-investing-ideas-including-crypto-related-stocks
