Model Cryptocurrency Portfolio for the Long Game! Buy, HODL and Grin!

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

As Warren Buffet repeatedly makes clear, markets go up over time. Investing for the long-term is the easiest and most effective way to generate amazing returns. The one caveat is investments must be held for years (think 5 to 10 years, realistically). One missed opportunity I have never forgotten is Netflix. In 2007, I considered investing a few thousand dollars in Netflix, but I never went through with it. Of course, we now know that $1,000 invested in Netlix in 2007 would be worth approximately $52,000 today.

Innovation and Change Mean Opportunity for Investors!

Today, we are witnessing a major technological revolution. The Internet-of-Things, augmented reality, self-driving cars and Blockchain will soon be commonplace in our society. Many of us cryptocurrency enthusiasts want to make quick gains and cash out early. I do too, but I also beleive that setting aside some funds for the long game is an essential move. I want to avoid repeating the mistake I made in 2007.

Accordingly, I have invested a small amount in cryptocurrencies with the intent to hold the assets for 5 to 10 years. Below is my model portfolio. For those who wish to buy and hold for the long-term, I hope this is helpful to you. The model portfolio uses the $1,000 mentioned above for consistency. This is only an example.

Model Portfolio (prices based on CoinMarketCap.com

Coin Price on 12/29/2017 Invested Amount Share of Portfolio
Bitcoin $13,996.30 $150 15.00%
Ethereum $726.36 $150 15.00%
Litecoin $233.19 $150 15.00%
Ripple $2.70 $120 12.00%
Stellar $0.343761 $120 12.00%
NEO $67.53 $65 6.50%
IOTA $3.39 $65 6.50%
Cardano $0.520531 $60 6.00%
Bitcoin Cash $2,624.59 $60 6.00%
Augur $69.88 $60 6.00%
Total   $1,000 100%

It is worth pointing out that all but two of the coins mentioned are in the top 10 list by market cap. Augur and NEO are not in the top 10, but I strongly beleive they should be in any long-term portfolio. All the coins above have strong potential for appreicating greatly year-on-year and, in our case, delivering the same value as tech companies in the early 2000s. I wish you all success!
