Hi @osblog I was hoping that @netuoso would elaborate at it was the subject of one of his previous posts.
However my thinking is that the current witch hunt mentality is being driven by something. And it seems that something may be the prospect of transferring a portion of the allocated reward pool to increase the payouts for the Reward Pool Mining Bot Farms.
I would really be interested to find out what percentage or the reward pool is being redistributed through down votes. This would provide a clearer picture of what the driving force is being motivated by.

I haven't had a chance to get around to this yet, but I am planning to do some kind of post about the benefits of sending the flag rewards to the null account.
Btw, downvotes are VERY rare on Steem. I would say less than a single percent of rewards are being redistributed through downvotes, but I will have to do some research to verify or disprove this hypothesis.
