Cryptocurrency investment virgin, please pop my cherry

I have been casually monitoring the crypto market, but am hesitant to start because of the massive amounts of investment options. Does anyone wanna give an ELI5 or link me to some suggestion sites that help explain investment basics? Tryna buy some Steem as well but what's the difference between Steem and Steem SBD?
