The world’s oldest Bitcoin exchange, BTC-e, has suspended trading after the arrest of one of the owners and administrators of the site, Alexander Vinnik. Did thousands of users just lose their investments and, if so, where has the money gone? From which countries did investors get hit?
Who lost?
By getting Alexa ranking of BTC-e by countries, it seems that the USA and Vietnamese investors will take the biggest losses.
Le Nam, a trader in Ha Noi said :
"It’s an estimation that Vietnamese trader lost at least $ 60 million because of BTC-e suspension. As a trader, I accept this risk because the reward is greater than the risk."
Change.org Petition for BTC-e victims
The site change.org has recently posted a request for signatures to release the funds from the BTC-e site. The petition states:
"“Hi, A few days ago a crypto currency exchange has been shutdown by the US government and a lot of innocent people lost a lot of money in the process. We need our money back!”.
The campaign has collected 2768 signatures as of today. Access here
