The hackers seem to be nailing it with 32 Million worth of Ethereum stolen in one overnight swoop!
Wow this is huge, talk about taking advantage and getting RICH overnight.
32 Million Ethereum stolen from Parity Wallet with the multisig feature.
WARNING!! If you have Ethereum in this wallet with the multisig feature move your funds immediately!
That's if they haven't been moved involuntary by the hacker themselves.
Good news is that your Ether wallet is still safe.
Here's a very distressing video from my you tube connection I received this morning.
Once again the cryptocurrency circles are under scrutiny due to this security breach.
So, where to from now and how will this affect this space?
A few pointers to take note:
The newer multisig versions of the Parity multisig wallet has a vulnerability. This is ONLY FOR MULTISIG WALLETS. Specifically created in Parity Wallet > 1.5.
This is NOT for your MyEtherWallet. Do not run and unlock your MEW wallet. That wallet is not at risk.
This is ONLY for multisigs and only newer versions
Do not panic. Panic makes things worse. Breath. Be careful. Do not panic.
Again, if you use MyEtherWallet, you ARE NOT AT RISK
If you do have funds in the multisig contract: carefully move your funds to a new account ASAP
More info: Multisig Parity wallets Created in December 2016 or during 2017.
The vulnerability is in Parity's "enhanced" multi-sig contract
This affects Parity 1.5 and later
Parity 1.5 was released on January 19, 2017 (have you created multi-sigs in Parity since then?)
The canonical multi-sig contract used in Mist / Ethereum Wallet does NOT have this vulnerability...
WARNING: Secure your wallets in the most effective way as possible.
In recent times their have been some major hacks on RIPPLE as well as BITCOIN.
This obviously does not do any good when it comes down to the BLOCKCHAIN and the trust factor becomes more of a larger concern in the crypto space.
In my opinion this may open doors for more and BIGGER security features to be applied.
Maybe another application, maybe another coin to be featured in the future? SECURECOIN :)
Seems like there will always be a thief somewhere in the house. Good luck to them wherever they are...
That's the issue, will they ever be traced? Only their wallet code is on record.
No wonder governments feel exposed, not that it's bad thing. Who know's, maybe this could be their work at play!
So many QUESTIONS, so FEW answers. The story of LIFE.
As always I hope you have taken note of my message and this post. Thank you for reading.
