Private torrent trackers use cryptocurrency mining for upload credit
Private torrent sites are using cryptocurrency mining as a way to raise revenue, allowing users to gain upload credits by supporting the site, reported TorrentFreak.
Unlike certain public torrent trackers which have embedded a hidden JavaScript cryptocurrency miner, this method is voluntary.
To download files from a private tracker, users must upload to other torrenters who use the tracker – acquiring “upload credits” in the process.
If you do not have enough upload credits, the tracker may block you from downloading.
Sites are experimenting with allowing users to acquire upload credits by mining cryptocurrency for the torrent site.
The implementation private trackers are using offer controls for how many CPU threads and how much CPU usage to commit to mining.
The screenshot below illustrates the systems being experimented with.
