Ripple (XRP) succeeds - cryptocurrency dies?

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

Today I have thought about what would happen if Ripple (XRP) succeeds with its goal to be "the one" or at least the biggest solution for global payments.

I dont want to discuss the methods by Ripple wants to achieve this, but what might happen if the team does.

Cryptocurrencies that were ment to be used for payments (eg. Bitcoin as its most prominent member) promised to bring us fast, cheap and safe payments around the globe. Something that banks could not do until Ripple arrived. Dont get me wrong here. When I say cryptocurrencies in this article I am not talking about utility tokens (e.g. GAS) and platforms (e.g. NEO, ETH, EOS etc.). I mean coins/tokens for payments!

Now Ripple doesnt wants to deliver what cryptocurrencies are trying to do for us all. But to bring Blockchain and all its advantages to banks, money transfer services etc. If banks adopt Ripple - and they are already doing -, banks can do the exact same thing plus providing further services to customers (lending, interests, consultation, legality etc.), why should they use cryptocurrency instead? Why should they undertake the time consuming and complicated steps to buy crypto, a highly volatile asset, to make their payments? Would You?

I guess cryptocurrencies will have a very hard time then. The only way for cryptocurrency to survive (imo) is to be recognized by a country as an official currency, what is very unlikely, unless this country itself has control over this currency.

The governments and the "elites" of this world will never ever allow cryptocurrencies to succeed, unless they are in control of it! Maybe cryptocurrencies wont die completely because of its fanbase and some people using it for whatever reason, but it will decline finally.

Just my thoughts for today. Please reply if you like.
