The removal of mining is great, it removes how overbearing the other mined coins are in relation to the fact that people with large amounts of money can invest in huge setups and makes it nearly impossible for small fry to even attempt it without being part of a pool. Plus it avoids the obvious GPU price hike and rarity issues from the miners over purchasing.

Agreed 100%! I actually got into crypto through my experience building custom pc's landing me in the emining realm. And as cool as it is, and as much as I think it helped pushed crypto mainstream, it simply is not a sustainable standard for tx confirmations if the goal is a truly global scale.
