Surfing the web can be fun, right ? Everyone loves going through their social media posts and communicating with people, but sometimes you decide to click on an advertisement which you may like. You open the website and you see that your computer is running slow and you may be wondering what's going on !? It's a fact that many websites nowadays use our computers to mine cryptocurrencies, with or without our knowledge.
==============================================================
How does it happen ?
Hacker's have found a way to inject a cryptocurrency mining software in certain websites which are going to borrow your computing power. There are ways to notice when you computer is being used. One simple way is knowing when your computer is running slow ( Task Manager is a good way of knowing when your PC is being used intensively ) . Cryptocurrency mining company Coinhive has a mining software to help sites further monetize their content, and that literally allows them to have less ads shown on the website while monetizing the content when the users accept the requirement of their computer mining for the website.
What's the bad thing about it ?
The bad thing is that people have created another software which allows certain websites to use your computer power even without you knowing it.Basically you need to have your Task Manager or any other computer software which can tell you the usage of the components that you have in order to know when to avoid that website.
What can you do about it ? What's the best prevention ?
Internet Browsers are most likely going to work hard towards catching websites which may have mining softwares that will use your PC power in order to mine. So, whenever a browser finds a website like that it will show a warning to the user which is most likely going to end up with the user not visiting the website. Remember that browsers are still working on this and there's always gonna be some smart people which may create more advanced mining softwares that won't be detected.Additionally there is a browser extension called "NoCoin" which disables cryptocurrency mining tools on websites that you haven't allowed. The extension is available on the most popular browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera.
Other ways to prevent browser mining
Block coin mining domains in hosts file
Block domains in Ad blocker
Use NoScripts in Firefox but have in mind that its really intensive. It removes all the scripts on the pages.
Use Opera browser which has an option called "NoCoin" Cryptocurrency mining protection
Conclusion
Watch what you visit. Not everything is working the way you think is working.Pay attention to how much percent your computer components are using by visiting the Task Manager often. If things are running slow it could potentially be a website mining software.

Good info. You know, I was wondering if my computer is slow and full for a reason. I tried my best with cleaning it and that kind of stuff but it doesn't help much. :/ I'm must be the worst with computers!
Depending the activities you are doing on the Internet .. Some require much more computer power than others. Hopefully there is no website that is doing tricks on you with mining software :P
Thanks for the feedback = )
What about a browser like Brave, I believe they try to stop ads and other intrusive contents with their browser.
Actually that could help too. Very good idea = ) Not sure if they block mining scrips/softwares but its worth a check.
I have heard of mining before so that is what it is huh? so if one is to be mined how long do they usually borrow your pc power? and can it potentially do more harm than just slowing things down? I had no idea fully about mining glad you shared this great post.
Some websites tend to use your computer power without informing you about that. How long ? That depends on you, how much you stay on that certain website. I personally think they can't do anything else apart from slowing down your PC and basically making your PC parts tired.
Thanks for the feedback = )
kind of scary, isn't it?
We just need to be careful. Not everything is with a good intention on the internet = )
you always have the best content
Thank you = ) I appreciate it . Stay tuned for more.
