I'll Take One Pizza... for $114 Million BTC

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

As part of my crypto crash course, I'm reading Digital Gold by Nathaniel Popper. While I'm sure this is hardly news for the experienced crypto vets, I found it fascinating when he describes the first ever real-world crypto transaction, initiated by early bitcoin adopter, miner, and enthusiast Lazlo Hanecz:

10,000 BTC for one pie! That's roughly $114,000,000 in today's BTC value -- or the approximate cost of opening 400 Papa Johns franchises. I sure hope he got extra cheese!

And now I'm hungry. Let's see if I can scrounge up .00017567 BTC...

This story is absolutely incredible. The thought of buying 2 pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins is incredible. Of course, considering this was when a bitcoin was worth a few cents. Great story - thanks for the wisdom ❤️

phew! indeed, in today's value, think about how much his stockpile of 70k was worth! All I can think about are regrets. XD

You can get pizza with 800doge coin 😅

Haha great post mate! I have indeed heard that story before, but it's certainly a good one.

You should check out my blog, I'm trying to do an overview on most of the top 100 coins so that could help you out on your crash course a little :)

Thanks, threw you a follow!

Fue la primera transacción, eso es actualmente como comprar una pizza con 10.000 dogecoin, en ese tiempo su valor era insignificante.
