Bitcoin's introduction into the world has been a technological wave of change unmatched in magnitude since the adoption of the internet. A magnificent idea birthed from the abuse of institutional, financial, and personal power to reap gains from a vulnerable market was seeded in 2008. What came next over the early years of bitcoin's foundation building was a pivotal moment for the future of this new space. As bitcoin gained traction, people realized that new coins and blockchain based technologies could be created. The sheer amount of beneficial possibilities to humankind is beyond remarkable. This change is so revolutionary that any individual can now contribute to the causes they believe in without having to worry about tedious and convoluted financial intermediaries or unfair legal restrictions.
With the introduction of a fast and secure method of internet based transaction, the organic result is investment, commerce, and trading. Many people will be introduced through commerce, while many others will enjoy the fast and cheap exchanging of countless new currencies forged through the network connections of the internet. With each new opportunity, challenges will present themselves, projects will go under, and people will attempt to gain unjust reward through trickery and deceit. ICOs and new coins will be funded by grass roots human beings who want to see a positive change in the world, while others will look similar, but be run by corrupt aspects of corporations, banks, and profiteers. As new coins are grown into functional ideas shared by large groups of people benefiting from this new connection, we all have the opportunity to gain.
As with any new space of this enormity there will be countless opportunities for contributing to new and creative projects. If we are to build this space into a healthy place to interact and operate, perhaps we ought to look to the consequences of the mainstream online media platforms. I believe we must be diligent about buying and selling these new tokens so as to strive to profit on the ideas we believe in, and not the ones which prey on the weakness, attention, or affect on its users. I will be looking to avoid the shiny and cheap applications started by hungry corporations because we all see how miserable and profit driven many of them have become. This is a chance for the unincorporated who might be in debt or have no college degree to actually become a valuable part of change in the world.
By adding value to the coins we think are reputable, visionary, and well intentioned, we can grow the landscape into a more meaningful and fulfilling place to interact. This is an opportunity now for us to inspire each other to avoid some of the shortsightedness other social media platforms have been prone to in the past. I personally would prefer not to be enslaved by this new space, not to be made puppets of the attention algorithms of enormous software companies or contribute to the large purses of corporate executives. This space is for us to grow the world out of the bonds and shackles that the previous system held tight. I hope that we can all consider whether we intend to take profit by any means from a market that is young, or to add value to a world we want to build out of the stuff of our imagination.
Beware of approaching the cryptocurrency space looking for the best trades to earn profit. Everyone is in this space together, and if you aren’t investing in ideas you actually care about, it could very well make the space less pleasant for others. Researching extensively about each coin you acquire is a sound strategy to avoid this blunder. Acquiring a small amount of an impactful and visionary coin isn't really a risk if you truly want to support their cause. There is still plenty of room to make profits, though seeking them foremost feels to me misguided. This space is growing and it is paced liked an accelerating train, so why worry about profit when the value will do?
