Personally I believe that the focus on the speculation is detrimental to the technology of cryptocurrency. People care way too much about the price and not enough about the code. The whole bitcoin civil war is more about the price than what's better for the bitcoin.

I wouldn't necessarily say the bitcoin civil war is about the price. Majority of it is scalability to ensure that it can be adopted at some point for a mass amount of daily transactions (like fiat is today)
Well yeah it's about scalability. But emotions are running high and those are because everyone has money invested. And the worst part is that different factions have the money invested in different things. Bitcoin thus remains a rope in a tug-o-war. There are genuine people who believe in one solution or the other, but mostly people just want their investment to grow.
On the one hand, the focus on speculating makes f.e. Bitcoins popular and gets news created. On the other hand, it's high prise kinda holds it back from being spent on a regular basis. In my opinion, Bitcoin will be the crytpo-gold in the long run - other coins will take the area of daily use!
