Had "the protocol" issue when tried to make a transaction with a wallet not supporting bitpay and made a quick app to resolve that: https://github.com/alexk111/DeBitpay It extracts the transaction requirements (bitcoin address, amount, min tx fee) out of Bitpay invoices (the same way the supporting wallets do).
