Akon To Build A Cryptocurrency City In Africa

Senegalese born, American Singer and music Producer Aliaume Thiam popularly known by his stage name, AKON has announced his plans of launching a new Cryptocurrency called Akoin (in his name) and building a Crypto-city (Akon Crypto City) in Senegal which he says will be “a real-life Wakanda".

Wakanda here comes from a great Africa represented in the award winning Black Panther movie.

Akoin will be the economic foundation for a global Akoin Ecosystem where consumers or customers will be able to buy, hodl and sell or exchange the Cryptocurrency from their devices through a suite of blockchain-powered apps. Akon says he wants the Akoin app to be on every smartphone between now and December this year.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Akon said this:

I think that blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings power back to the people and brings security back into the currency system.

Also, with regards to Akon Crypto City, Macky Sall, President of Senegal has offered 2,000 acres of land which is located outside the Senegalese capital, Dakar and is a five minute drive from the new international airport.

This city is aimed at blending Crypto infrastructure with other aspects of smart cites to create what it calls “a radical new way of existence”.

Akon says he plans not to personally get much involved in the execution of the project as he said:

I come with the concepts and let the geeks figure it out.

It should be noted that this is not the first time Akon is showing up to help Africans. He had also created the Akon lightning project which has now install solar panels in about 18 Countries in Africa.
