It was February 2018 when I built my very first PC - and I truly enjoyed it.
But at this time it was really hard to get a good graphics card for a reasonable price.
After researching why, I learned about mining. And I was really curious.
Since I had so much fun building a PC I thought: "Why not building a mining rig?"
It was March and we all know the crypto prices from that time. My miner, I called it my Minion,
was working great, so I decided to build another one, Minion2
and another one.... (it was almost like an addiction)
and soon I had 6 Minions, and spent close to $30k on hardware.
Now I was running in the next problem that I did not count in: the heat.
I had to find a cooling solution - keep in mind, I live in Florida.
After researching the only solutions was a Hydroponic Grow Tent, and additional AC unit and 2 AC blowers,
one on the bottom to bring in cool air and one on top, to blow the hot air out of the window
So what's left?
I sold almost everything for a fraction of the new price on ebay (still have some motherboards, riser cables, rigs, processors....) and with that money I bought:
2 Antminer Z9 Minis and 2 Innsolicon A9 ZMasters
and on top I bought more crypto coins than these Minions could have made in 2 years mining (not even to think about the electricity they would have used).
Now financially it was a bad investment. Do I regret that I went so overboard?
I absolutely don't. I had a blast learning about crypto, learning about blockchain, about the different algorithms, building the Minions, coming up with solutions.... I truly enjoyed that.
And isn't that what's life about? To have and to do something enjoyable?
So no, I don't regret that investment at all.
Plus, my ASICs are still mining :) And I am a believer in crypto
