For those who are interested - I am planning on doing a few posts on how to get started with crypto currency trading. But before investing any of your hard earned dollars, you may want to start leaning about the space by earning some free tokens (which you can convert back to dollars), for no risk. You just have to invest some time. There are lots of ways to get free coins, but these are 4 services/projects that I have tested, and they all worked for me. The initial tokens are worth only a few cents, but they start to accumulate and grow in value. At the same time. you get introduced to some of the concepts of the token economy. I started a couple of months ago, and have accumulated over 100 $USD from a few different sources of free coins. (That was during a bear market when the coins weren't increasing very much). There are lots of other ways to earn crypto $ (like air drops, sharing computer resources or other things, providing content and curation services, etc etc), but I will leave that for future posts. These services are all accessible to ordinary people, (unlike mining for example), and are pretty easy and simple to get going. Later, you can learn about things like wallets, portfolio trackers, trading etc. etc.
Here are the referral links. If you use these links to connect and sign up, you will get a few % more, and I will also get a small commission for spreading the word. So, it benefits both of us, as well as the companies who want to promote their services, who would otherwise spend the money on conventional marketing. This has the potential for exponential growth with very little investment.
Presearch - This is a decentralised search engine project which wants to eventually replace the centralised ones (like Google, for example). You can use it like a metasearch for now, so you can have it search Google as well as other sources. Eventually, they (the community) will be developing their own search algorithms which will be more open and transparent than Google. I am not sure about how they plan to handle advertising, but there is a lot of information on their site, whitepaper and documentation about what they plan to do and how. For now, you get about 25 cents per search for helping them beta test the system. It works well for me, since I have to do searches anyways, so why not use their system, and you can make it the default? I don't think you can cash in their tokens until they make that available in June. In the mean time, the market value of the tokens has been going up (mostly with the market index)

I think you have to sign up for the beta in order to get the free tokens. Its a pretty ambitious project which is getting a lot of attention around the world. I have communicated with the project lead on linkedin (Colin Pape, who is a great guy, and fellow Canadian). They have a good team, and one of the advisers is a co-founder of Etherium (which also originated in Canada)
Candy box
This one is interesting as well. You get candy tokens for doing some small micro tasks, as well as some other free tokens from other projects who want to promote their coins. Some of them are not listed on exchanges yet, but the candy ones are. They are worth less than 1 cent, but they are accumulating and increasing in value, and some of the other tokens may also be worth something, if you are patient. In the mean time, you can learn something about the various projects that are participating.

Mannabase
This is a site to promote universal basic income. They seem to have raised some funds which they are distributing. I am not sure how they will get revenue in the future, but there is a lot of documentation on the main site explaining what they are trying to do, and how. This token is worth less than a cent for now, but they accumulate every couple of weeks automatically, and I think that the coin will probably increase in value over time. I plan to use this one for donations to third world countries, or charities if/when it gets to a significant amount:

Doc.io
This project is about having a universal profile that you don't have to re-enter into every social network that you join, or have to enter into the services (like freelancer sites for example). It also protects your privacy, so that you can decide what information you make available to whom. Again, there is a lot of information available on the site about what they plan to do and how they will accomplish it.

If you want to invest in any of these tokens (beyond the free ones), or other alt-coins I will explain how to do that in future posts, if you are not familiar with crypto investing. In the mean time, have fun.
