Various EOS groups will now compete to see whose blockchain will become the most popular as there is likely to be more than one chain.

This is a little misleading I think as there is really only one chain of any significance right now and that is the mainnet that you are posting about which is now official with the 15+% vote being completed. There will be other chains but that will be just to increase scaling for building of dapps.

Barring some major issue, the mainnet should always be the mainnet.
